The article says that Kroger offered to keep him but that he voluntarily resigned to pursue other opportunities. If that's the case, then I don't think it's fair to blame Kroger.

Perhaps he resigned because they wouldn’t allow him to carry a sidearm. It isn’t a question of blaming Kroger’s. They’re attempting to avoid liability. However, if it were a tossup between defending myself or keeping a job, I think I’d prefer to attempt to ensure my personal safety. If I were disabled or killed, my family would also sustain a loss. It’s just cost-benefit analysis.
