L.A. schools Supt. John Deasy has called for changes to laws that protect the rights of teachers accused of heinous acts, saying they should be subject to faster dismissal and the loss of pay, benefits and pensions.
Deasy made his comments on KNX-AM (1070) radio in response to reports by The Times that a former teacher charged with lewd conduct with nearly two dozen students receives lifetime health benefits from the L.A. Unified School District and a pension of nearly $4,000 a month from the state teachers’ retirement system.

I'd be perfectly OK with hanging a perverted freak who actually did what this fellow is accused of doing.
I do NOT want any of these United States to be in the business of hanging innocent men.
I'm sure we all agree, on this forum, that In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.
If you read the article, you know that the investigation lasted one year, there are photos and former students saying that the perv masturbated in the classroom in front of the kids. Okay? The judge has set bail at $23 MILLION.
The perv resigned before being fired in order to preserve his pension, probably on advice of the union.
It is justice for the public to take pensions away from public employees who do not deserve them. The LAUSD superintendent is acting on behalf of the taxpayer. That is a conservative POV, my friend.
Like I said, I’m all in favour of the accused having a speedy trial.
Once convicted, yeah, they lose all pensions and “lifetime” anything.
Merely being accused should not be enough to punish. There are students out there who would gladly file false accusations because they are angry at the teacher.
That happened in my home province. The teacher was falsely accused and the testimony was very convincing, until video showed up clearly showing the teacher was in no way in position to do the things he was accused of.
If he is convicted, he should lose everything.
This teacher was loved by his students. The kids were 7 to 10 years old and didn’t know they were being abused. It was a game to be bound and gagged, cockroaches placed on their faces, fed semen as part of a taste test, and then photographed. Kids went to the school office to report that the teacher was acting funny and were told not to make stories up about adults.
I have no problem with pulling the switch, if he’s guilty.
What’s the proof?
I generally think that there should be cameras in the classroom.
Let me put this plainly. After a one-year investigation, the school district found reason to fire Berndt. Before they could fire him, he resigned.
We are not at the stage of legal “punishment” yet, so I don’t know why that is your theme. The school district is taking action within its rights and policies.

23? I’m speechless, one is too many, but 23. The only lifetime of anything he deserves is a lifetime in the pen.

Sheriff’s Lt. Carlos Marquez of the Special Victims Bureau said it was determined the children were given semen on a spoon or on a cookie. A blue plastic spoon and container found in trash in Berndt’s classroom tested positive for semen, the sheriff’s statement said.
None of the photos showed the students actually eating the semen, but Marquez said the children reported they didn’t like the taste.
Authorities are recommending the children be tested for sexually transmitted diseases.
Some of the children’s mouths and faces had large, live Madagascar-type cockroaches on them, according to the statement.
A DVD depicting adult sexual bondage activity “which mirrored the bondage-type photos of the children” was also found during the search, the department said, noting that the adults in that video were not identified and those images are not a crime.”
