Time will tell. I heard on the news yesterday that PP reported private donations had SOARED because of the original Komen announcement. No doubt Komen received quite a few donations from pro-lifers who now regret doing so.
So, both Komen and PP raked in the money for a few days. Now that Komen put things back the way they were, the baby-killing crowd will likely reward them. And, the pro-lifers gave when they otherwise wouldn't have.
"Epic fail"? No, I suspect this was another New Coke type of PR stunt. And, it worked beautifully (unless you're an unborn baby).
And why did pro-lifers donate?
Komen never stopped funding PP, they simply announced that they were going to in most areas.
They never acted on principle, but only to stay out of Congressional investigation.
Yep, Komen should have stood firm. Now, PP has benefitted from other donors and from Komen in the short run. In the long run, Komen got the feeling they were finished because of their original decision. Now they will be finished because of the flip and flop. In the process, the PP goal of finishing Komen off will come to fruition and PP will pick up the slack by advertising addtional services. Hardball at its best. Catholics and evangelicals, Komen and any other entities with morals and ethics better get the steel spine and quick.
