The House of Delegates tentatively passed a bill Thursday that would allow voters to write in names on primary ballots in Virginia.
The concern was raised in December after former House speaker Newt Gingrich failed to qualify for the March presidential ballot and wanted to stage a write-in campaign.
Virginia allows write-ins for general elections, but not primaries.

This has to get past Romney's running dog lackeys in the Senate ~ Bolling, the presiding officer, is a Romney lapdog.
I'll believe it when I see it, but write ins aren't going to be enough to remove the stench of election theft from this POS.

If it does happen, the voters need to PRINT VERY CLEARLY, don’t leave any doubt as to who they meant.

I’m interested. Thanks for posting!

It would take a 4/5 vote in both Virginia chambers for this to take effect this election...
that won’t happen.

To: mrsmith
It probably won’t happen, but at least the House is giving it a try.

Annie, in Alaska, anything they wrote close to “Mukokeowshyi” counted— according to the Alaska Sup. Ct.
Just write “NEWT”!

Thank you for the update on the VA Primary. It's not perfect; but, it's a start. Of course, I'll believe it when it passes. One has to wonder that if we can do this why couldn't we just get the candidate's names on the ballot?
(I know, “rules” ...funny how they could ignore the “no winner take all primaries prior to April 1st” rule, though.)

I'm going to have to riot, right?
Darn, I hate it when that happens ~ so much mess ~ bodies everywhere, lost arms, legs. Darn, darn, darn.

No one demonstrated that Mitt got the names ~ he slid by with a special rule the party used to not check his signatures.
As far as anyone knows Ron Paul is the only guy who made the ballot legitimately.

Would you be a good sport and ask the admin to add (VA). There’s another thread up about “Senate passes XYZ bill...” without reference to WHICH Senate (WA). As if we don’t have 57 states and state senates. Just a pet peeve of mine. Danke.

I don’t think it’s intended for THIS election cycle. Most laws adopted in VA don’t go into effect till 7/1.

Could you add (VA) to the title? EDINVA is flogging me severely for forgetting to add that. :-)

PRINT VERY CLEARLY! We need to be handing out those stamps you order from the office supply people, THOUSANDS of them that look exactly like this:
NEWT GINGRICH
This is not a hard thing to do! Pass them up and down the line of voters approaching the booth!

What I heard on WRVA last week was that the Election Commission only examines the number and veracity of signatures if you have less than 15000 on the petition. If you are over that number, they accept the petition "as is:" w/o signature review and verification.
Both Romney and Paul claimed over 15000 signatures; so, their supporter's signatures on the petitions weren't counted or verified. The other candidates all had less than 15000 signatures; so, their petitions were reviewed and found lacking.
Also, the signature petitions, under the existing rules, have to be circulated/collected by a registered VA voter. That issue went to court and was ruled unconstitutional; however, the judge did not rule to compel the GOP to accept the candidates names to be placed upon the ballot. Take care, -Geoff
