Governor Daniels signs Right to Work bill into law (INDIANA)
WIBC Radio ^ | 2/1/12 | Ted Andrews

Posted on 02/01/2012 2:08:09 PM PST by TMA62

I remember Daniels getting a lot of heat for not pushing RTW legislation last year. He and the Indiana House and Senate had a lot on their plates legislatively last year. Daniels wanted hearings on it last year and to look at RTW for this session. In December, Daniels came out in full support of RTW.

Today he signed the bill into law making Indiana the 23rd RTW state in the nation. You gotta give Daniels credit. He is a man of his word. Great job Mitch!!!

I’m not a Hoosier but I like living here.

And I'm a Hoosier, but I'm not living there. I'm in PA where we'll probably never see RTW in my lifetime.

How many weeks before a leftist judge throws it out?

Too ad Mitch Daniels is not running for President. The one thing I hold against him is being a Princeton graduate.

Michigan’s industrial belt (the I-94 corridor) is only about 40 miles from the state line.

I don’t know if its even there anymore but Grumman Olsen used to be a big employer in Sturgis Michigan within sight of the state line. It would be relatively easy for them to step across the state line. If not the entire factory, plenty of secondary operations.

Surprised that went so peacefully. Congratulations Indiana and thanks to those responsible for this legislation’s passage and to those long passed who were responsible for the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act (without which there would be no RTW States).

States are expressly authorized to be RTW per the Taft-Hartley Act (a federal law). No federal judge can do anything about this.

How many hours until a judge puts a stop to this?

No doubt the Goonion lawyers filed their injunctions as soon as Daniels set the pen down.

Marriage laws are also determined by states, but that doesn’t stop federal judges from throwing out state constitutional amendments that define it as between a man and a woman. (see Kalipornia just recently)

"Will the unions riot or hold protests at the SuperBowl?"

they were there today. There had to be about 7-8 thousand union protesters disrupting the Super Bowl activities in downtown Indy. They had obviously been bussed in from around the country. They weren't making a very good impression on all the fans who were just there to enjoy the festivities.

Again, federal law (Taft-Hartley Act) expressly authorizes States to be RTW. If there was ever a federal judge who would rule Taft-Hartley to be Unconstitutional, the unions would have gone to him long ago (T-H was passed in 1947).

Is there something in this bill that abolishes unions or gives employers the option to ban union activities in shops that are already union? I have some facebook friends who are hyperventilating that they are going to lose their jobs because they are union. My cousin even called me names and de-friended me over this. Any 411 on this would be helpful.

RTW doesn’t abolish unions it just says that no worker can be forced to join a union as a condition of employment.

Daniels is, in many ways, a model for both conservative and center-right governors: reasoned rhetoric rather than over-the-top attacks, conservative results rather than pandering to the Left.

Yes, and I think this aptly describes Governor Walker in Wisconsin as well, and for the most part, Governor Kasich in Ohio.

Nice job on the RTW. Now if only Mitch can figure out a way to get his toll road back that he sold to the Spanish (I know, he didn’t sell it, he leased it to them for 75 years).

Today Indiana, Tomorrow Michigan!!!

A few things...

* Listen to Thayrone X on 1600 WAAM out of Ann Arbor, he is keeping tabs on the effort in Michigan.
* Google Terry Bowman of "Union Conservatives"

The bottom line is in terms of Automotive Suppliers Indiana puts great pressures on IL, OH, and MI given the proximity to MI and how they play into being feeder states to the Auto Industry. Indiana stole a lot of jobs from MI under the Mole, Jennifer Granholm, this could take that and put her losses on steriods...
