Gingrich: It's a 2-person race for GOP nomination

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)-- Trounced in Florida, presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Tuesday used the defeat to declare that he alone is the conservative alternative to GOP front-runner Mitt Romney.

Gingrich ignored the fact that the other two candidates in the race -- Ron Paul and Rick Santorum -- chose not to run aggressive campaigns in the state.

Gingrich's defiant pledge to continue on against Romney sets the stage for a bitter brawl for the Republican nomination that could last for months. Gingrich supporters Tuesday night hoisted signs that read "46 States to Go."

-snip-

"I just want to reassure everyone, we are going to contest every place and we are going to win and we will be in Tampa as the nominee in August," he said.

-snip-

Gingrich now heads to Nevada, which is set to hold caucuses Saturday. Romney won Nevada when he sought the GOP nomination in 2008 and has had a campaign team there for months.

Gingrich's fortunes could rest on Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator who remains in the race despite weak showings in South Carolina and now Florida. He was a distant third in both contests. Santorum continues to pull conservative and evangelical support that would likely move to Gingrich if he left the race. Tuesday's results could increase the pressure on Santorum to drop out.

I’m not a Santorum fan. Until recently I at least had a modicum of respect for him but no more.

Word is that Santorum has thrown his lot in with Romney and that he stated last night that his supporters would support Romney and not Gingrich. Romney has lots of money you know.

I’d have been tolerant to a Santorum VP a month ago, but not now. Santorum’s a despicable, sanctimonious turd who’s only in it for himself.

He may be tired. It was mentioned somewhere that he sounded like he was getting a cold.

I agree about the brokered convention. The best way for that to happen is for Santorum to stay in and win some delegates in the Midwest, Gingrich win the South and Texas, and Paul to win Virginia and some of the caucus states like Maine, Colorado, and Nevada.

That's the best chance of success for Anybody But Romney.

Convention delegates are likely to be somewhat establishment friendly, but much more conservative and sensible than the Washington establishment.

I bet Santorum could give two craps about what you think. You are EXTREMELY insignificant to him. You spouting nasty Santorum blasts on the computer like it matters is a laugh. He does not take orders from you. Go Santorum! He is brilliant and even keel where Newt is immature, definitely has an inferiority complex and spoiled brat when he is not winner. Is that Presidential? I don’t think so.

I bet nobody gives two craps what you think either. You are EXTREMELY insignificant to all of us. You are an immature, spoiled brat and you definitely have an inferiority complex, or you wouldn’t behave the way you do. I seriously doubt Sen. Santorum would be happy to know that he has you as a supporter.

We’re Americans. If the jalopy is too broke to fix, we build a new one.

Exactly. Let’s do the math again:

brokered convention = Romney insiders give him the win.

Some conservatives need a reality check. Sarah Palin is not going to be the nominee. Rick Santorum is not going to be the nominee. Duncan Hunter is not going to be the nominee. It’s going to be Romney or Newt. Pick your guy and go for it.

"pretend politics".

That's pretty funny, considering who fills most of the leadership slots in the Republican Party these days.

Reminds me of an old joke...

While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator..

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven.."

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell..

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning, Today, you voted.."

Sorry abut that. But I think you are still being too hard on Santorum. My goodness he is on our side. He is not the villain that you are making him out to be.

I am sorry to say this, because Newt is the official FR candidate, but the more I see or hear of him, the less I want to vote for him.

No, I am not a romneybot. And you don’t have to be, to not admire Newt.
