Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich invoked the spirit of the Founding Fathers by paraphrasing the Declaration of Independence in his speech to supporters following his second-place finish in the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Gingrich, a trained historian and author, began his 15-minute speech by noting President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the first national military cemetery when he spoke of “government of the people, by the people, for the people."

“And we’re going to have people power to defeat money power in the next six months,” he said in a reference to Florida victor Mitt Romney, whom he referred to as the “Massachusetts moderate.”

Closing out his remarks, Gingrich stressed his commitment to unleashing the spirit of the American people and called on supporters to reach out to friends across the country to tell them they have a chance to nominate a conservative.

"I promise you that, if I become your president, I pledge to you my life, my fortune, my sacred honor," he concluded. ...

So let's cut Newt some slack here ... He's supposedly living as a man whose sins Christ has forgiven ...

You read too much in to my comments. I didn't condemn Newt for his affairs, or multiple wives. I condemn him for using phrases that sound like a marriage vow, and reminding people of his indiscretions. I believe there is redemption for all who seek it, but many others do not. If Newt win the GOP nomination I will happily vote for him as my President.

“You and I HONESTLY don’t have a leg to stand-on when it comes to criticiszing Newt ... or Tiger Woods for their stupid immoral transgressions ...”

Were we also wrong to have condemned Clinton for his Monica moments?

“Christians who are Catholics also understand the power of forgiveness, in the sacrement of reconcilation.”....

Why does a Christian have to be a Catholic?.....Or a Baptist?....Or a Lutheran?......Or a Pentecostal?.....

This is the WORST sort of political pandering. Newt should be ashamed of himself for cheapening the words of Patriots that really meant these words.

For shame on him. Vile.

Exactly which “sacrifice” are you referring to?

You mean paying himself and his own companies thousands of dollars from his campaign funds? What, exactly, are you talking about? What “sacrifice?”

His political career was dead before his candidacy, a career that he used to enrich himself on the connections that he made while in office. So, once again, what sacrifice are you talking about?

Or do you mean that he sacrificed his “sacred honor” to run for president? Your statement is confusing to me.

If you can’t prove those ridiculous charges re: “paying himself and his companies from his campaign funds”, let me suggest that you STFU.

That is Romney BS.

You’re obviously too dense to see the personal sacrifice it takes to run for President as a conservative.

Well it is good to have a faith community with fellow believers, it is hard to be a Christian alone.

Awww, Ain’t you sweet? Attack the messenger. Maybe you should learn to use Google before you run your mouth...or at least keep up with current events.

Oh, and I love that you throw out the old “Romneybot” defense, but I defy you to find a single post where I’ve said a single word to defend Romney.

I’m just not buying what Newt is selling... I may be the last true conservative on this site. Can you imagine that, Imbecile?

Oh, and F*ck you for calling me a gun-grabbing socialist.

Oh no don't tell Jim on me. A base on the moon. Nuff said.
This whole process is a joke anymore. If there was anyone worth a dang running you wouldn't see this bickering. Not trying to pick on Newt. Just making a observation.

“Well it is good to have a faith community with fellow believers, it is hard to be a Christian alone.”

It is and I agree.....But that has nothing to do with what I asked you....Why do you have to be a Catholic, or Pentecostal, or Baptist ect.....Why not just say “I am a Christian” instead of refering to yourself as a Catholic when discussing Christ and Christianity?...

Well all those churches are branches of the family tree call the “Christian faith”. That is why.

There is nothing wrong with being interchanging of the words putting the two together such as for example: “Catholic/Christian”.

uh-huh......”Let there be no devisions between you”.....I’ve never met a Catholic who doesn’t identify himself or herself as a Catholic, first and foremost.....Their allegiance is to the church.....My Catholic faith, the Catholic church ect.....Why not, I’m a Christian.....My last word on this.....Take care.....
