Once you understand what these pillars represent, the solution becomes obvious.

Democracy is allowing the Muslim world to express its truest and deepest self. That self is at the heart of this conflict. It is at the heart of the clash of civilizations. By helping to liberate them we have set their worst selves free.

Not sure if the author realizes that the same can be said for America. Only an extremely stupid and self-centered voter would continue to vote for politicans who continue to do deficit spending , grow "entitlement" programs, and keep on doing more of the same that will see a collapse of our economy in a very short time. Only stupid voters would elect a narcissit with no accomplishments to his name to the highest position in this country when promised "Hope and Change" (or was that Dope and Chains.)

Democracy is highly over-rated. Our Founding Fathers recognized that a tyranny of the majority (Democracy) could be as bad as a tyranny by a single despot. So our Constitution was forged to LIMIT government and it's reach into the lives of the people. But over time, the people wanted more, and the Constitution became irrelevant. This is little different when the people of ancient Israel asked for a King, to be like other nations, and the prophet Samuel told the people that they were rejecting God: “This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots. He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants. He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants. And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work. He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants. And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you in that day.”

Would that our "king" only take a tenth ...

I no longer believe that Bush was correct was correct when he stated that the natural heart of men was to seek freedom ...because too many people are willing to trade freedom for a master who promises them things - taken from others.
