A local radio guy here in LA said that there was a poll that showed 51% of Florida Republicans described themselves as moderates. Only 29% said they were Conservatives.

If that’s true, Newt never had a chance.

A lot of Conservatives didn’t vote in the primary. Do you remember who elected Reagan? Conservative Democrats.

Florida is at least 65% retired Massholes running away from Estate taxes. 6 Months and 1 day of residency is all it takes per year. They come back here and vote twice.

If FLA wants to be a true “bellweather” state, they’ll knock of all of this early voting crap and require actual citzenship.

New Yawkahs do the same in spades... they are the truly deranged, nasty “committed” Lieberals.

Does anyone know if the Florida primary was an open primary or closed?

Makes sense. On Hugh Romney radio show he is talking all about how this makes Mitt inevitable. Moderates setting us up for another failure! THe tea party in many other states will not allow it!

Florida is not your typical Southern State i.e. it is not a Conservative state.

Florida has had the misfortune of being the reception of countless elderly Yankee liberals who have transformed the State politically.

I lived in Western NC for eleven years. The Boston types retire in Florida and spend summers in WNC. I would like to see how many absentee votes in both places match up.

71% describe themselves as conservatives, 26% as moderates, and about 1% as liberals. Source

The headline "Among TRUE CONSERVATIVES, NEWT TAKES IT AT 46%, ROMNEY LAST AT 11%" is deceptive. These are people who say "true conservative credentials" are the deciding factor. That's a smaller subgroup of those who consider themselves conservatives, though you might not think so sometimes.
