The U.S. Military Academy pressured a retired U.S. lieutenant general to withdraw from speaking at a West Point prayer breakfast after Muslims and atheists complained, Fox News & Commentary has learned.
Retired Lt. Gen. William Boykin was scheduled to deliver a speech at West Point on Feb. 8. But late Monday, the military academy released a statement saying he had decided to withdraw from speaking and would be replaced with another speaker.
However, a source close to the controversy told Fox News & Commentary that Boykin was pressured to withdraw.
It was very clear they wanted General Boykin to withdraw, said the source who asked not to be identified. He asked them to rescind the invitation, but they were reluctant to do that so he said he would take them off the hook.
Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokesperson for West Point, told Fox News & Commentary that the U.S. Military Academy did not decide this for him.
After a conversation with our chaplain, Lt. Gen. Boykin decided to withdraw, Brinkerhoff wrote in an email.
Boykin, a former senior military intelligence officer, had been criticized for speeches he made at evangelical Christian churches where he said that Americans enemy is Satan, that God had put President Bush in the White House and that a Muslim Somali warlord was an idol-worshipper.
He later issued a written statement apologizing and said he didnt mean to insult Islam.
However, Boykin became a target for atheists and Muslim groups. They launched a campaign to force the military to remove the retired lieutenant general from the West Point prayer event.
Mr. Boykins intolerant views do a disservice to our nations longstanding traditions of religious freedom and pluralism and could potentially harm our countrys interests and the security of our troops overseas, Nihad Awad, executive director of the...

What you wrote reminded me of an email I received with some links to a video lecture regarding islam. I admit so far I only watched the first two, but they were very interesting especially the part about Christians and our need to be “nice.” I definitely don’t think I will be comfortable calling anyone nice again, nor will I like being called nice. The word nice is really quite insulting and is not what God wants us to be.
Now folks, we can’t be having those Christians speaking at our prayer breakfasts, now, can we?
Ever think that he was heeding the words, “If no one welcomes you or listens to your words, as you leave that house or town, shake its dust off your feet.” ?
Sometimes it is not a matter of standing up and fighting. It is a matter of knowing when you have fought the fight and God has released you to move on.
We have no idea how long he pleaded his case.
Maybe he was being “nice” when he should have been bold and trusted in the Lord.
If he had stood up there calling for Jihad against Americans (like the Fort Hood shooter), this wouldn’t be an issue.
Folks remember we need to pressure them to KEEP the Christian Speaker!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE
I try to be fair. These a$$wipes make it hard.
I am a Catholic thanks to a US Army Chaplain who was Catholic. I am sane (debatable, I know) thanks to a UK Army chaplain who happened to be Muslim.
Both ran none denominational services. Just celebrating God without our differences. Both were good and godly men in any and all senses of the word, who advised, helped and hurt along with us. Fought along side us.
I know that it is the thing here to blame Muslims for any crap like this. Atheists are FAR worse.
You are attacking the wrong enemy. Muslims are the enemy of the day. Atheists mock everything you believe in.
Islam and atheism worship the same false god.
Some in each group are fooled into believing otherwise. They’re the “nice” and “sincere” ones, who are capable of fooling others, who are susceptible to being fooled by such shallow qualities, and who also tend to value the equally shallow concept, “fairness”.
I disagree.
There are honest, devout and god loving Muslims. It has been my privlege to know two of them in the course of my life. They ARE rare - but it would be dishonest of me to say they do not exist. No one said witnessing was easy. I have witnessed two. Should that offend you, so be it.
There is no such thing as an honest, devout and god loving Athiest. A person who rejects god cannot be godly. To borrow a phrase from the muslims, Atheists are haram. It is a more satisfying word than simply evil, with undertones of slime and foulness.
I han’t insult you by dictating, but you have read “The Last Battle” by C. S. Lewis.
We’re not “passing through”.
We’re here for the duration and have NOT fought hard enough.
In fact we’ver rolled over and accepted the abomonation.
Time to engage more forcefully!
If all you’re saying is that Muslims can find the one, true God (after which they are no longer Muslim), then we agree. If you’re saying that Muslims can find God and remain Muslim, then we could not disagree more.
BTW, many an atheist has found God also, but not while remaining an atheist.
I have been thinking on this. How to explain, and I can not. I will try, not been a lightning rod for at least a week! (note to the Viking Kittys - hold the Zot til Friday, I am pledged to pay my share of the paulbotzap thing by then!)
The two people I mentioned, one man, one woman, walk the path of truth and right. They walk with God. Their sheer joy in life, in following God's word, in doing good works and living as a testament is inspiring. They simply happen to call God Allah. Don't know about you, but I have called God many things less complimentary.
The man is Alawi. This is a man who, by his own beliefs, risked his soul every Friday when he read from the Torah. Because some of the flock under his care needed it.
I have seen him, with my own eyes, crying because he could not give the Last Rites to a dying man, and a Catholic Chaplain couldn't make it in time. Rules suck sometimes, right?
The woman is Sunni. She is just good. There is no other way to describe her.
Basically, there are good people out there. People who follow the will of God. He speaks to us all, and someone elses path is not mine. I judge on actions, and I can no more know how God speaks to another as I can know the thoughts of a stone.
The vast majority of Muslims I know personally are not good people. Then again, I can say the same for well over half of the congregation in our church. Never met a godly Sikh and half the neighborhood is made up of them.
If someone is good and godly, I WILL testify to it. I do not care if they are Buddhist, Shinto, Muslim or even Baptist.
Sorry for the long post.
