I understand where you were trying to go and didn't have any love for any of those Republican candidates mentioned. But your post made the opposite point. You asked for it. :-)
I took it to mean that if you voted for the GOP-e pick, the democrat won anyway. In other words, there was nothing gained by holding your nose. Same will happen this time, so I will not vote for another loser moderate/liberal.

Carter, Clinton and Obama were horrible for this country. All three -- Ford, Dole and McCain would have been preferable if one takes the emotion out of it. So those three examples were idiotic to make the case for not holding on'e snose. :-) (and I say that as one would absolutely hates candidates like Bob Dole)
In this case Romney could have been taken out (and can be taken out) if conservatives unite. Stubborn conservative candidates are helping Romney. That is the primary process and those candidates can do what they want. But they are causing the problem not the RNC. If Santorum had bowed out Gingrich might have beat Romnney.
