There was a recent U.S Supreme Court case involving this exact same issue regarding names on an initiative petition by opponents of same sex marriage. The supreme court said they had to be released.
Typically, liberals want it both ways.
They want whatever will give them a momentary advantage.
They know the MSM won't call them on it.
They will mis-use the procedural characteristics of the democratic process, the legal system, the education system, whatever, to gain an advantage. It doesn't matter how ridiculous it is. It doesn't matter how contradictory or hypocritical they look. They know the MSM will look the other way, but the bottom line is they simply don't care. They also know the average person will forget all the details in a year or two anyway.
