Sorry, perhaps I should have been more specific. We should be investing in ourselves as the saviors of this Republic. No one politician, especially a career pol like Newt is going to help us. We can’t rely on the Presidency, Congress or the Judiciary any longer, they are all far too corrupt. The individual.. Mr and Mrs John Q Public is what is going to save this country.

God helps those who help themselves.

You are, of course, correct. The safety, welfare and sanctity of any democracy is in the hands of the people of that country.

In the case of the USA, your President is seen as the representative of the people. Their avatar, if you like. It sounds strange, I know, but not to anyone from a democratic or semi democratic monarchy - which well over half the world is.

Who you elect shows the color of the nation’s soul. Have you not noticed a huge increase in the perception (abroad) of Americans as entitled, vapid and spoiled since 2008?

Of course it isn’t correct for the huge majority, I know that personally.
But the perception is there, thanks to your public face - your president. That is who we see, and who we foreigners judge you by. Hollywood is fake and most TV is fake - everyone knows that. Your President is real.

Newt is a flawed man. Ain’t we all? But to me, he epitomizes the one truly outstanding aspect of the average American. He is PROUD to be American. The sort of guy who, when you have a problem, says “Stop whining and let’s fix it. Here is how.”

I will keep praying - not just for Newt, but for the millions of Americans who ARE the country.
And keep phoning when I can, writing as and where I can, contributing where I can. We can ask God for help. It is always provided. It does not excuse us from working as hard as we can.

Sorry for the aside. Not quite a prayer, I know, but something I feel strongly about.
