“The family acknowledges Johnson’s actions were wrong, but they question why a warning shot couldn’t have been fired first.”
Because the dirtbag might get away and harm another human being? Just throwin’ it out there..
When I took the class for my carry permit the instructor said we should NEVER fire a warning shot and never point the gun at anyone without shooting! Such behavior leaves you open to a charge of “brandishing a weapon” or it can lead to your having your weapon taken from you by the person you are trying to warn away. If you show it to him shoot him with it!

More like the victim wasn’t a police officer and was just defending himself.
Right, some guy is breaking into my house and I’m going to shoot the wall and say “stop”?
She's right you know, I was always taught to fire a warning shot, in fact I was taught to fire three. 2 to center mass and third to head.
All three shots are a warning to the next guy that he gets the same if he attacks me.
Came very close to firing some "warning" shots last week when "Pillbillies" tried to break in our building at around 3 AM.
Even the drug fogged brains of those poor bastards understood to seek elsewhere for their business and hightailed it out of there.
