It all happened last Wednesday. Prosecutors say Johnson, who was already on probation for aggravated assault, robbed two men in West Reading and was attempting to rob a third along a bike path in Cumru Township in Berks County. But the would-be victim was carrying a licensed firearm, and shot two of his attackers. Johnson was killed. A friend is now in the hospital.
Johnson's mother, Idella Hopkins George, said, "Do I believe he was justified in shooting my son? I would say no."
The family acknowledges Johnson's actions were wrong, but they question why a warning shot couldn't have been fired first.
Johnson's sister, Ashley Jones, said, "He's a kid. His actions-- I don't approve of his actions at all, but he didn't deserve to have his life taken."
In recent days a Facebook memorial page has been flooded with sometimes hateful posts -- referring to Johnson as a "thug" who died like the dog he was.

I understand your points. I don’t think she burdened the man who shot her kid. She condemned the kid’s actions, is sad that he chose that path, and he died from his actions. She and her daughter are numb, still in shock. How would you feel if you were in their place?
My parents (career Navy father, and professional hair stylist mother) raised both my sister and I in the same way. Patriotic, go-to-church on Sunday, spending time weekends together, respectful, etc. Yet my sister (younger) was a hell raiser, wild child. Enough for both of us. Thankfully, she straightened out, and became a great woman, wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend. Was my Mother to blame for her wild years? Or perhaps Dad for being in the Navy? Or maybe it was my sister for not listening Mom and Dad.
OK, so you “know about” LBJ and the “Great Society”.
You don’t “understand” LBJ and the “Great Society”.
Duncan, there is nothing I can do to convince otherwise. You want to be the professor. But can’t understand what I’m saying. I don’t mind discussions, but don’t like lectures.
Haha...what a martyr you are. Or maybe just a troll patting himself on the back for his politically correct sensibilities.
no one is beefing with you
it was a courtesy ping...and I was on your side
word of advice...when cornered by jackasses here don't fire off in a circle
i pinged you because you and I and a few others were the only ones not high fiving over yet another stupid yet very dead kid
Well if you see someone playing with fire and later hear that caught on fire, it would be a valid assumption that they set themselves on fire.
But feel free to beat that dead horse. You KNOW damn well the woman was not married twice to the babies daddies. No mention of them is in any article cause they DON’T exist.
FTA:
"...but he didn't deserve to have his life taken."
Yes, he did. He was a career thug who engaged in physical violence towards innocent victims. It was only a matter of time before one of his victims was murdered. Escalation.
I'm glad the real victim in this case was able to execute a pre-emptive strike and take this scum off the streets before an innocent was killed.
TTFN
Than again, sometimes parents can do everything ‘right’ and still have a child who’s lost. The good and bad are all part of God’s plan... even if it doesn’t make sense on our finite level. Prayers for the lost and suffering... and those who love them.
Swampy? (Really? What’s up with that?)
Seems like you’re spending an awful large amount of time defending yourself. I guess you are right. We should all feel sorrow for the young criminal who got shot. The only person I feel sorry for is the old guy who was forced to (rightfully) shoot him. That’s a big decision for anyone to make.
Heartwarming and worthy of Lifetime TV.
“Swampy” was in response to the use of the British word (arse).
Now to set the record straight for those who have understood my sentiment. I never dismissed the kid’s actions, nor did his mother and sister. I am glad that the senior was able to use his weapon. The sister wishing that he would have been able to fire a warning is silly, but understandable coming from someone who just lost a sibling (however bad). The poor man who had to shoot will live with this the rest of his days, just like the family.
You are a breath of sanity on an insane thread. Thank you for posting what I have been trying to. Hopefully you are not savaged like I have been.
Thanks. Posts are sometimes hard to decipher of meaning, since they lack personal interaction. Plus, if you had seen the attacks on me, you might understand. Tell the nasties that it isn’t good to circle fire.
I can’t vouch for this rap sheet (I got it off of a facebook page) but here it is:
