I was a great fan of Superman comic books when I was a kid. Among my favorites were those in which the Man of Steel traveled to Bizarro World a dimension in which everything was the opposite of our normal world. Watching the last few Republican presidential debates, I now have a pretty good idea of how Superman must have felt as he tried to function in a world in which left is right, black is white and up is down. I refer, of course, to the manner in which former Speaker Newt Gingrich is being attacked by fellow Republicans Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney. Hes being attacked for, well, accomplishing conservative goals.

FTA "One wonders if the attacks against Newts record by Romney and Santorum reflect these candidates disagreements with what Newt accomplished as speaker, or whether they are simply blinded by their personal ambition for high office. Either way, their actions are a disgrace to the party they purport to represent and to their own candidacies."
Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting. FR and Bob Barr go wayyy back to impeachment days.
” If people attack Santorum, like he is the same as Romney, you will find 10% or so of people who will be angry at Newt. We have time to let this play out a little longer. Newt, Santorum and Paul could come together at some point. Newt President/ Santorum VP and Paul Sec of Treasury.”
Sorry, there is no more time to ‘let this play out’. If Romney takes Fla the race is all but over. Mi and NV are next and Mutt will win both.
No sober person thinks Sanatorum has any chance at all of taking any of those states, all he can possibly do at this point is shave 10% or so off what Newt will get. He has to know that from the polls and the only thing that can be concluded from him staying in is that he wants to be Mutt’s VP.
That will never happen and leads me to believe he isn’t very bright.
Santorum pulled out of Florida, and announced it. If that doesn’t get his supporters in Florida to vote for Newt, that’s really a problem for Newt, not Santorum. If Newt can’t win the hearts of voters whose candidate isn’t competing for their votes, that’s not Santorum’s fault — Santorum can’t FORCE people who like him to also like Newt.
In at least one Florida poll, they found that of the Santorum supporters, their 2nd choice split evenly between Newt and Romney. So for at least some voters, Santorum is doing Newt a favor, pulling votes from Romney with voters who hate GIngrich and would never vote for him.
I really doubt that anybody who would happily support Newt Gingrich is still voting for Santorum in Florida.
Delegate Math: Dont Anoint Romney Just Yet
Mitt Romney may have won Iowa and New Hampshire, but even if he wins in South Carolina and Florida, he will technically still have a long way to go before winning the GOP nomination.
Mathematically, no candidate can seal the nomination until late April, which leaves a lot of campaigning yet to be done.

“I am one of those who hopes for a Santorum win, but will vote for Newt and NEVER vote for romney.”
I also hope Santorum will come on strong as the not-Romney here soon. I hope Newt has the sense to drop out if it becomes clear he’s not going to win.
Santorum seems to me, ignoring the various hype out there, to be by far the best candidate left.
Santorum has no, zero none, path to victory. When Mutt wins the nomination any respect conservatives had for Rick will drop to nothing.
NO ONE but God knows what the future holds. If we Santorum backers are willing to jump to Newt to keep romney from winning, shouldn't we let it ride and see what Santorum can do. Don't be like the establishment and tell us we have to vote for their candidate because ours can't win. Santorum has not attacked like romney has and we deserve the time to see what happens. We have until the end of April. This is not about Newt or Rick, but about the future of our country.
