Evangelicals, Tea Party Breaking Hard for Gingrich in Florida Primary

A new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday reveals that evangelicals and Tea Party supporters are breaking hard for Newt Gingrich in Florida, putting the former House Speaker within two points of front-runner and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

A press release describing the poll states Gingrich "leads among white evangelical Christians 43 - 30 percent and among those who consider themselves to be tea party supporters 43 - 28 percent." Each segment makes up roughly a third of primary voters, according to Quinnipiac pollsters, "although there is substantial overlap among those two groups."

Coming off the heels of his victory in the South Carolina GOP primary, rising evangelical and Tea Party support has allowed Gingrich to slash nearly 10 points off of Romney's lead with less than a week to go before Florida's GOP primary.

My take on Rush is that he is just telling it like it is...he spent most of the last few days debunking the report that Newt was hyper critical of Reagan.

If this presidential election turns out bad, I hope Santorum realizes what it will be like to be remembered as the guy who handed Florida to Romney on a silver platter.

Don't forget, he's the guy that handed a senators seat to Arlen Specter.

Finally some good news out of FL. Tea Party and Evangelical breaking hard for Newt.

Also Mittens scorched earth drive for the White House seems to be sour him with the Independents. If the Independents are souring on him the undecided Conservatives are souring as well.

Its gonna be a close one.

I listen to Rush and he is not like Ann Coulter. He has been level the whole time which is the right thing to do. Coulter however is rabid and non-nonsensical when it comes to supporting Romney. She has gone round the bend in my book. But do not lump Rush in with anyone.

The devil is in the details and he who counts the votes, wins. The GOparty sent out 400,000 absentee ballots prior to the South Carolina primary. According to reports, at least a third of them have come in. Someone is counting those votes. If Mitt is anywhere near Newt in the vote count, the party will put him over the top. In other words, imagine the 2000 election in Florida, only in-party.

Mitt and the GOP-e have learned every trick the democrats have played but they use them against their own party. I fully expect foul play similar to that perpetrated in Iowa, only on a much larger scale. Anything to make their savior, Mitt look like a winner.

Face it, all the ABR (Anyone But Romney) candidates have warts. As long as Santorum goes up when/if Gingrich goes down in the polls, the ABR vote will be sufficient to beat Romney. And we’re better off having an alternative if Gingrich blows himself out the water, which he’s perfectly capable of doing on any given day (See pic of him on couch, or remember the “right-wing social engineering” comment.)

And I’ve noticed that Santorum seems to gain when Gingrich falters, so he’s not out of it yet. Frankly, I don’t care which of the two ends up on top, but it’s way too early in the process to assume that Romney is going to lock it up by winning Florida. Besides, Florida lost half of their delegates by running an early primary, cutting their influence significantly.

More than 200 similar rallies occurred throughout the country, including Boston, San Francisco and Detroit , as candidates used the tax filing deadline as a forum for one-upsmanship on frugality.

“Americans literally work every day for months just to pay for a government that wastes their money,” said Gingrich , who is seeking re-election from the 6th district. “On the day taxes are due, we should remind you that you have every right as a citizen to protect yourself, your family and your wallet with your vote.”

And where was Santorum? Still likely trying to memorize Roberts Rules of Order.

No offense to Santorum or his supporters, but Newt has been at this a VERY long time, and is SOLID in his beliefs.

The fact that he could not get it together in his personal life, well, is unfortunate for him. But I don’t feel any of these slip ups EVER affected his loyalty to voters AT ANY TIME while in office.

If Santorum takes one for the team and withdraws from the FL race, we won’t forget it. If he stays in and pulls enough votes from Newt to result in a Romney win, we won’t forget that either.

The percentage of votes going to Ron Paul and Santorum are going to make a difference in Florida....a difference that spells almost certain defeat for Newt.

We have to hope that Santorum voters, realizing that Santorum can't take Florida, will vote for Newt just to stop Mitt, if for no other reason. That, and Sarah needs to make a lot of noise for Newt between now and Tuesday.

we need to convince undecideds and Santorum backers to vote strategically in Florida by backing Newt to defeat Mitt.

Good idea.

Rick can't win in Florida and he knows it. That's why he's pretty much given up his campaign in Florida.

Rick's supporters could still help him with donations and votes in other upcoming states. Santorum supporters in Florida would get much more bang for their vote if they vote Newt to slow down Mitt.

I think that's part of the balancing act that is going on here. They're both going to be gone soon enough. Question is, where are their supporters going to go? I see Gingrich as the natural inheritor, and I think the Romney camp does as well.

Speaking of Romney.

I have, since the 1980 election when I cast my vote for Ronald Reagan, voted on William F. Buckley's recommendation to support "the most conservative candidate."

The way I see it, in a choice between Romney and Obama, it's a toss-up.

Because of everything I've seen in the past week, I have come to loathe Mitt Romney. I will never cast a vote for Barack Obama, and I will never cast a vote for Mitt Romney.
