That is certainly not true. So far as I know the State of Florida did not have a state church when it entered the union in 1845, nor did it claim such a right when it presented its constitution to congress. Unlike slavery, a state church was not a domestic institution. By that time, all states had disestablished their churches, so that this is an exorbitant claim. Ironically, the very reason why "Deseret" could not get admitted to the union was that it DID have an establishment of religion, and one far more powerful than any religious establishment in American history, excepting that of Massachusetts Bay while that colony had a charter conveying such authority on it.
Statism run riot. And THIS is a "conservative?"
