bump to the top
Do you know that the U.S. Office of Personnel Management shut the federal government in the National Capital Region on the morning of the March for Life - January 23, 2012 - supposedly due to ice on the roads?
Yet, many employees found there was no more ice on the DC roads than was the case on many other days when there was no delayed arrival. Moreover, weather delays are usually announced in the early morning of the workday in question - once current conditions can actually be assessed - and lead to a 2 hour delayed arrival. This time, OPM made the announcement at 6:50 p.m. the night before, with the unusual proviso that the government not open until 11 a.m. Thus costing the taxpayer up to 5 hours’ worth of adminstrative leave for each employee who normally begins work between 6 & 10 a.m., as almost all do.
Arguably, the above wasteful directive issued to avoid media reports on the impact of 500,000 pro-life marchers in the downtown DC area during rush hour.
