The GOP Empire Strikes Back At Gingrich

By Dan Balz January 27

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The revenge of the Republican establishment is a sight to behold. From one corner to another, those who have tangled with Newt Gingrich, who feel aggrieved toward Newt Gingrich or who fear Newt Gingrich have amassed to stop him. They know how much harder it will be to do so if the former House speaker wins Florida on Tuesday.

The quintessential example of establishment angst came Thursday from Bob Dole, the former Senate majority leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee. Hours before Thursday’s GOP debate, he released a letter — circulated by Mitt Romney’s campaign — attacking Gingrich and pleading with Republican voters not to make him the party’s nominee. There is much rich history behind that letter.

Dole is just one voice in a chorus of critics who have spoken out. Gingrich’s victory in South Carolina just a week ago sent a shudder through the ranks of elected officials and others who make up the establishment and the conservative elite. Fear of Newt has displaced lack of love for Romney as the dominant emotion among these Republicans.

In recent days, the group has included former House majority leader Tom Delay (R-Tex.) and the caustic Ann Coulter. A trio of House members shadow Gingrich’s events. Others who are prominent in the conservative movement have joined ex-colleagues of Gingrich to sound the alarms.

Your previous post was accurate. However, broke or not, Delay belongs behind bars. He is a crook and a big government GOPer at that. Our country is better off that he is nowhere near the levers of power.

Not true. Your post is but a gratuitous assertion.

He was a bug sprayer. My bad.

He owns a home in Virginia.

He went to work as a lobbyist....cashed in.

Ronnie Earl has indicted and tried a lot of people. Guess what. Some of them were actually guilty.

As far as I’m concerned, a conservative snake is just as bad as a liberal snake. They’ll both bite you.

Actually, if anyone would know that a hapless nominee for president can sink others on the ballot, it would be Bob Dole, but in 1996, the congressmen survived as Dole and Kemp surrendered to Clinton and Gore with barely a whimper.

Did you know that DeLay succeed Ron Paul in the House in 1985? Then in 1996, Gingrich worked against Paul in Paul’s return to the House.

Okay, I tried to be nice. Now I realize you are just a low-down lying liberal posing as a conservative.

You tip your hand by demeaning the guy’s business (inaccurately) to start with. Yes, that is “your bad”.

So what if the former House majority whip owned or still owns a house in Virginia? As some kind of proof that Tom DeLay is a bad person, that is IDIOTIC.

Went to work as a lobbyist? Another one of your lies, but as per usual, there is nothing illegal about working as a lobbyist anyway. More unsupported accusation.

Guess what. Ronnie Earle, who you so eloquently defend- NOT!, is a Democrat political operative who abused his power and a grand jury and jury in his safe Alinskyite, excuse me, Austinite jurisdiction, to ruin a good conservative man on our side.

And now you find yourself defending Ronnie Earle and the Texas Democrat Machine because you can’t admit you have been brainwashed by whatever liberal garbage -oh, is it because they named him “the hammer” and that scared you?- you have believed and hung your hat on today.

I have no idea why you would have bought into the liberal brainwashing regarding Tom DeLay, but I’m beginning to believe you are simply no conservative.

If you are a conservative you will read up on the case and find out what a travesty of justice thedemocrats have hoodwinked you into believing. The you can apologize for your character assassination.

Your posts show why the current generation of people that claim to be conservatives are such losers.

LOL! Hate to break it to you but I’ve been following gold ol Tom for quite some time. The guy is a fraud and a dirtbag. Your posts show the hero worship has been rotting the insides of the GOP for some time.

When you say someone is brainwashed I assume you are looking in the mirror.

I marched around the governor’s mansion during the recount. That’s how conservative my credentials are. But I’m not a blind conservative. A crook and a turncoat and a money grubbing politician can come from either party.

As for the bug killer, do you know any facts about his bug killing business? I think his office manager’s name was Dale Dribble. Dale wears a lousy toupee and red pants and dances with the stars. No, wait! That was Delay!

You never give any evidence for anything you say. You are a dirtbag and fool and don’t have the brains to recognize when the democrat enemy is defrauding you and turning you against your own conservative friends.

And your screen name is a pompous fraud too.

“Perhaps Gingrich’s classic line labelling Dole “the tax collector for the Welfare State” touched a nerve.”

That Gingrich remark, and Dole recent remark are an example of “what goes around, comes around.”

More totally unsupported name-calling drivel out of you. Lucky for you that you were not born in a different century.

What is really funny is you think the small businessman put-downs are funny.

And you think marching around some governors mansion makes you a conservative! I think it is you who are the turncoat.

Oh and there’s plenty more where that came from. Keep on defending a convicted felon though. It enlightens the other posters on FR.

Again, you stupidly post democrat lies used in a completely political prosecution by the Alinskyite, I mean Austinite, Ronnie Earle followers to defend your laziness or previously posted misconceptions. Either you are a liberal yourself, or show your self a complete tool of the democrats with that post, because I have already told you about the falsity of the “money-laundering” lies the democrats used to get Majority Whip Tom DeLay out of office.

Man, you are dumb.

The GOP Establishment is soooooo stupid.

I can understand their desire to get back in control of the Chairmanships and thereby regain control of spending our hard-earned moolah, but they will get the same thing with Newt.

Only a little less of it.

People always give credit for the economic boom of the 90s to Clinton, when it should be given to Newt.

Newt was blamed (or credited dependingon your point of view) for shutting the government down during the Clinton years.

The shutdown happened because Clinton wanted to grow the government at 13 or 14 percent a year, and Newt wanted it to grow at only 6 or 7 percent a year.

In the end, government grew at Newt's rate and the Reagan economy continued to prosper.

Of course, we can't forget to give a shout out to the rise of the internet during those years, but still, the point remains, under President Gingrich, government will continue to grow.

Only at a slower pace than under President Romney.

Stupid idiot GOP Establishment. They're shooting themselves in the foot.

Keep defending the convicted felon and soon to be imprisoned "there's no fat left to cut in the federal budget" schmuck. It's entertaining and enlightening for the rest of us.
