Voter Photo Identification: Protecting the Security of Elections
States must protect the security of the election process, but they must also ensure that every eligible individual is able to vote. Not only does voter ID help to prevent fraudulent voting, but where it has been implemented, it has not reduced turnout. Despite many false claims to the contrary, there is no evidence that voter ID decreases the turnout of voters or has a disparate impact on minority, poor, or elderly voters; the overwhelming majority of Americans have a photo ID or can easily obtain one. Democratic Senator Harold Metts, who sponsored Rhode Islands voter ID law, said that as a minority citizen and a senior citizen, I would not support anything that I thought would present obstacles or limit protections.
Thank you both for pointing out the error in grammar that I was about to mention-when I was in college, something like that would have been pointed out in ANY class, never mind a post graduate class. A lot has changed in 30 years or so...
