All the members of the Republican Party who have been complicit and collaborative in the destruction of our nation in the past few decades always talking about smaller government while never fighting against the tide of creeping socialism have now come out against Newt Gingrich.
Yesterday, at National Review, Elliot Abrams attacked Newt Gingrich for attacking Ronald Reagan from the right.
Today, it is Bob Dole’s turn.
Bob Dole, you will remember from George Stephanoupolos’s memoir of his time in Clinton’s White House, totally cut the legs out from under Newt Gingrich and House Republicans during the government shut down. According to the Democrats, they were within twenty-four hours of caving to the House Republicans’ demands, but Bob Dole surprised them all by caving first.

Bush the elder made me doubt the party and Dole vs Clinton convinced me my doubt was well founded.
After the Dole's latest hatchet job, I am more convinced than ever before that Newt should be the nominee.
Two posters on this thread alone have directed you to the same thread that shows that Rush was NOT attacking Newt yesterday.
If you don't "have time" to research/understand what you're talking about, then don't make ill-informed comments.
Michael Reagan also endorsed Newt after this.
I drank a lot of the official kool-aid at that time and I regret how slow I was coming around. Fortunately, several posters here have shown me the errors in my previous thinking.
Rick's goal here: If he can cause Newt to lose, then Rick will end up being a heart-beat away from being the guy who loses to Obama in November.

Dear Senator Santorum,
Although I find your positions to resonate with my own on a host of key conservative issues, I recognize the futility of your being able to unseat Mitt Romney. The percentages are not there. This is the last chance conservatives have to run one of our own against the Republican elite liberal machine, and the Democrats, and Barack Obama's radical socialist agenda.
However, your continued efforts, as honorable as they are, to persist in the nomination process will only succeed in splintering the Newt Gingrich vote and insure Mitt Romney (a moderate liberal) becomes the Republican nominee. Romney as "Obama lite" will not survive a Democrat onslaught.
I ask that you seriously consider conceding and supporting Newt Gingrich so we can have a decent chance at electing a conservative president in November.
I would expect to continue to see you as an important and crucial voice in a Gingrich administration.

You didn't even look at the thread that two of us directed you to, did you? It breaks down what Rush was saying.
A bit off-topic but not by much. I just went to Mitt Romney’s Florida website. I was going to try to send him an email requesting, in the interests of the continuation of the nation as a Constitutional republic with a viable geographic border, that he step down and support Newt Gingrich. However, the first thing that hits you in the face on the website is a field where you insert your name, address, and your Visa card number—to send his campaign a contribution. The guy is positively shameless.
Rush’s theme in those 40 minutes was ostensibly the vehemence of the Republican-on-Republican attacks.
However, what he actually did was convey every negative commentary on Newt without countering ANY of them. He did not defend Newt on the substance of ANY of those attacks. He just said how shocked he was, how very shocked, because he thought he remembered the history and this was all just so...shocking!
He mentioned, among other things, Newt’s remarks about depositions and putting friends in touch with ABC, and tells us these things were not true. He speaks negatively about the space program remarks of Newt. In the 36th minute he says Nancy Reagan would not have said what she did, had she known. He mentions that Newt was for Rockefeller though Newt says he was for Goldwater. He tells us they are obviously clearing the field for Romney — and he doesn’t sound approving of that — but he doesn’t refute ANYTHING.
And he says how he was among those who were worried about just this sort of thing, that the candidate might “implode.”
Newt is not imploding here. His enemies are attacking him and Rush is passing it along as presented by these people.
Only at minute 40 out of 42 he says some blogger claims Newt’s anti-Reaganism comment was edited, and Rush then says his people tell him it was NOT “doctored.” And he concludes his people are right.
These 42 minutes are loaded with unnecessary gas, you can skip the first twelve minutes and miss almost nothing. But bottom line, and I stand by it firmly: Rush only repeats the attacks and claims to be shocked! shocked! and he does not dispute them AT ALL.
Now I’m done because I won’t listen to it again just to post verbatim. You want to be fair, go listen and point out where I am wrong. You can’t.
Clearly Rush was playing along with Newt lynching. He spent an hour repeating that nonsense, uncritically, without even bothering to take callers who might have challenged the allegations. I love Rush, but that was pathetic. Newt’s criticisms of Reagan were all trying to push him from the right, which is fine by me, but there was no context at all given in Rush’s filibuster. I don’t recall him ever doing anything quite like that. I don’t usually expect Rush to be disingenuous. If he doens’t like someone or something he usually says so, why play games?
Great observation! If the Rinos and Dems hate him, you know he’s God’s gift to the people.
