The Republican establishment mobilizes to prevent the nomination of Newt.

After arriving in Florida like a rolling ball of butcher knives, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is looking less edgy and more flabby by the hour. The last four polls in Florida now show Mitt Romney back ahead (the previous four had Gingrich up).
That's at least in part because Republicans-some conservative, some semiconservative, and some conveniently conservative-are attacking Gingrich as a walking, talking party menace; a flu-like contagion who will lose the presidency and contaminate down-ballot Republicans with erratic extremism.

PING
The Country Club Republican elites don’t think they can control Newt - so they attack him mercilessly in coordinated fashion.
Do they think they can prop Romney up the same way in the general? Notice they have not moved at all in Santorums direction. They have put too much money on another poor choice, hoping that the economy will bring Obama down.
When did Newt stop being one of the establishment elites?
Florida Tea Party Alert is in order. Rebellion is dying if this comes off as threatened. Newt’s ground game is now being taken out and effectively, for four days, Newt is gagged. Do we take this sitting down?
As far as I can see, the GOP saw it’s best days long ago. Sadly, the Establishment owns both parties. The Tea Party is more important to traditional conservatives. We are no longer wanted in the GOP.
“As far as I can see, the GOP saw its best days long ago.”
Yeah when Newt was in charge in the 90’s...
When they decided he was a genuine threat that they couldn’t control?
I think it was not when he orchestrated the CONTRACT WITH AMERICA and led the Republican sweep of Congress in ‘94, for the first time in 40 years. What’s your guy done for sweeping anyone anywhere? Hmmm?
While this is advertised as a fight over conservatism, its really a fight over winning or what the party decides winning is about or what winning is meant to pursue. Gingrich wants to win to bring about radical change. Romney and the new wave of party critics contend the only thing radical about a 2012 campaign with Gingrich as nominee would be the radical loss of political clout in Congress and state legislatures across the land, along with the White House itself.
Rush is right...the Establishment/Country Club RINO's are only worried about their clout in Congress, and they're fighting an epic battle to maintain power of the purse strings. They don't give a hoot about radical change to actually restore this country for the better.

Thanks for the background story on him. I hardly ever watch CNN but I heard what they said about the establishment going after Newt and looked for more information to back it up. I know Newt spoke about it in Mt. Dora today and there sure are a lot of false stories about Newt and Reagan being dumped suddenly. Limbaugh, Levin and Michael Reagan were disputing all of them today.
