Ping list ping.
We’ve checked and the Google Earth maps have our USPS-certified address at several different places, none of them accurate. Spokeo and related types of sites have wildly inaccurate information.
Do they use GPS?
It may actually help that our particular rural area is liberal. Our county gets all sorts of perks.
That all said, the average discussion around here these days is about off-grid sustainability and no one seems to want to be a haven for looters.
IMO, not having an IPhone, not using Google, not signing up for social media, putting any ID or credit card in a shielded sleeve and (inadvertently, in our case) having a professional identity that differs from ones legal name all help. The government, of course, knows where we all are, but they can be confused and maybe even delayed by various means.
I don’t think they are going to come after our essentially pitiful stashes of food, etc. They have high tech bunkers for the connected and will take over stadiums and abandoned malls for the punters, who will be provided with rations from the hundreds of millions of freeze-dried meals they purchased last year. They will just embargo those of us out in the Disadvantaged Areas while maintaining their street mercs in the cities.
We won’t necessarily be safe in our rural redoubts, but we might just pass under the radar long enough for things to settle down.
Why is it you think the government cares where you are?
Can they read, “Halt!”, “Do Not Trespass”, “Trespassers will be shot!”? No? Then they can blame their union edgeekators.
dang - now your’re out there.
Doesn’t one need a visa to cross into “the county”?
Too far out in the "sticks", those Escalades aren't real good on gas mileage, and "trick or treat" usually is more poplular where there's sidewalks and paved roads.
OTOH, Suburbia is a major reason why record gun sales and lots of CCW classes are well-attended. Suburbia has prepared itself for the future, as it's un-folding.
You bet...Since there is no work, I would guess it's a lot of government retirees heading to the hills, while collecting their tax paid retirement checks.
Michigan family ping-Key words-COLD & Isolated. I think I would rather live in North Dakota. At least you do not have to shovel snow EVERY day! The population in the UP is low but lots of people on public assistance. What happens up there if the SHTF? Do they still know how to hunt and fish, or has the use of the EBT card swiped them of that ability?
BTW, in most rural areas, even the locals from those places, cannot find jobs.
Prepper’s PING!
Ominous black clouds of doom cover the edge of the horizon, the lightening is flashing and there is the distant sound of thunder! The storm flags are going up, who you heed them?
I think that at best we are in for a collapse much like that of Argentina. A excellent 12 part documentary on the economic collapse of Argentina can be see on YouTube with part one here:

I am very aware that if its the great end as foretold in the Bible that there is nothing I can do to stop or change it, but history is full of instances and times when man or nature have caused such a calamity that people have cried out and begged God to end it all.
The bible has many verse such as this:
A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3
This verse and others are there for a reason and I urge all to take heed of them, because we are clearly on the edge. Everyday there is a new story about the Yutes who grow more restless everyday and when you add the fact that because of the economy people are already on edge it wont take much to set things off.
Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8) (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. Theyre a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You dont believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.
Today we have yutes who roam our streets who are with out morals, without respect for law or life itself. They will look are you with the same doll eyes a shark does before he eats you and they will feel no more compassion than the shark does.
That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the yutes. On the other hand the yutes wont think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

Go out in the sticks buy a surplus missle silo and turn it into survival condos. Make your own job.
I'm working my way up to being "that crazy lady on the edge of town that you don't want to mess with". My husband loves to feed that perception --- "how's the wife?", and my husband responds that I'm home having coffee and cleaning guns.
It's all in fun, cause I'm really quite sweet, generous, and kind ... just do not mess with me or mine. I will answer with extreme prejudice.
This is not normally the type of thread I’d ping to the another reason to homeschool list, but there is some mention of public schools in here.
It’s a situation that I had not heard before and I don’t know how applicable it is to most homeschoolers, but here it is for your consideration.
ROTFLOL!!
Snort...chuckle...snicker...
Oh wait...you’re being sarcastic, right? right?
I lasted 10 years before it drove me nuts, but I didn't actually move until I had been in the city for 20 years.
I am now in a small town where everybody knows everything about anything that I do and I see the charm in that. It takes me an hour to go to the grocery store to get a gallon of milk because, down every aisle, there is a conversation with somebody I know.
But if my vehicle were to break down on the road, I can think of 15 people right now that would drop whatever they were doing and come to help me. As you age you value things differently, as I have come full circle in my life of travels and am happy being in the small town place.
This must happen to a lot of people like me because in my small town, my hunting buddies are doctors, lawyers, pilots, farmers, and business owners of all kinds, and we have a very high number of millionaires.
Right...lol
Hey it’s an idea!
By the way, there is no reason to head to the “sticks”. There are many other places to go outside major cities, than having to head to the boonies, where there are no jobs to speak of, or little of anything else. I personally have no desire to move to the middle of nowhere.
That’s true there many an out of the way place that in most towns that look abandoned and yet would make a good place to lay low during shtf.
