I just finished reading a transcript by Rush Limbaugh about this subject. His memory of those times are like mine, and considerably different than what is linked to on Drudge and stated in your link. Frankly, I have no trust in what many in Congress back then and now say.
Many of those Republicans are still in Congress. They are part of the ongoing problem of business as usual in Washignton, D.C. Under a Republican president, they added over $3 trillion to the federal deficit, shunned conservative policy in favor of Beltway influence-peddling, and so damaged the GOP brand that we lost the majority Gingrich had worked years to forge.
Do you really think I give a damn that Newts fabulous colleagues think his reemergence would be a disaster for Republicans? No.
The elections of 2010 were NOT a merit promotion; the Republicans were the only alternative in town!
They are terrified of Newt Gingrich because he has made it plain that business as usual in Washington, D.C., will no longer exist once he is President. The Federal gravy train will no longer be running.
