He’s so used to making things up and saying them unchallenged that her criticism has probably been eating away at him and he had to address it immediately.
So his feet barely hit the tarmac and he tries to tell her that something that she knows happened didn’t happen the way she recollects. It’s obvious from the body language that she’s, uh—forcefully assuring him that her recollection is accurate, since she was there too.
You’re right. This Kenyan prima donna is living in his own cloud-cuckoo world. (`I have Spoken. Let It be Writ. Let It be Done.’)

Agreed. He probably spent the entire plane ride fuming about her book.
All the while he is fuming about a book, housing starts are way down, again, and unemployment rose, again.
