Doubting Daniels (can we blame those who dream about a late entrant to the GOP presidential field?)
American Thinker ^ | 01/26/2012 | Calvin Freiburger

I can't blame anyone for dreaming about a late entrant to the Republican presidential field -- Mitt Romney is tone deaf, Newt Gingrich is insufferable, Rick Santorum seems unable to catch fire, and Ron Paul, well, is Ron Paul. The likelihood of beating Barack Obama with any of these guys is uncertain at best, and the desire for someone more conservative, competent, and capable is hard to deny.

A sizeable slice of the conservative commentariat seems to think drafting Mitch Daniels is the answer. The Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol declares the Indiana Governor the winner of a debate he didn't attend, the Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens says we deserve to lose the election partly because this member of "the GOP A-Team" hasn't answered the call, National Review's Mona Charen sighs that "our best leaders" like Daniels are sitting it out, and Charles Krauthammer applauds Daniels for one of the best State of the Union responses he's ever heard.

To all of which, I can only shake my head and ask: are you insane?

After Daniels 'response' to SOTU; would have to say; just FORGET it!

Newt's passion; may be insufferable to some; but for many more of 'us'; it matches our desperation for the honest PC-free, articulation of ideas and solutions; and as well; fills the current Repub void; with a voice, willing to profile America's enemies; NAME them; while offering a plan to deliver America from all of them.

I love Ethanol in gas as well. It is the CORRECT and ONLY CONSERVATIVE position on the matter.

Part of that is because I also LOVE PORK and that residue left over from the process goes straight to the piggies ~ it's sanitary, sterilized, bug free and good for'em. Gives their meat a fine texture.

Burning food for fuel is stupid.

It seems to me that the GOP suspects their Annointed One might not make it after all, so they are floating trial (lead) balloons to see how the second choice might fare rather than getting behind the non-Romney winner and going after obama.

Rotten to the core.

In this case it produces superior pig food and that in turn provides me with first class pig meat.

What's not to like!

The 12% decrease in my milage?

Lawn Mower ruined. The stuff eating hoses on the weed eater.

I am glad your pigs taste better, we could have done that with a cheaper food.

It's cooked. Pigs thrive on cooked, clean high protein food.

I say whatever we spend producing superior pigmeat is a good investment. If you can get some gasoline additive out of it, great!

Remember when wrestling with pigs, you both get dirty and the pig kind of likes it.

The anti-ethanol campaign plays into the hands of AlQaida and the Iranian mullahs.

The only analyses that show that ethanol is too expensive also totally discount the value of the residue as high protein food for livestock.

Sorry, you can't have it both ways. The residue has high market value and must be added back into the formula developed to show the costs and benefits of the practice.

You want to buy a stamp go to the grocery store. The sell them.

Regarding "boondoggles", USPS is not subsidized by taxes.

Government agencies that ARE subsidized by taxes are Department of Defense,..... ~ and all the others.

USPS is a user-fee based business.

No one is going to win this argument.

We do not agree.

That is what is keeping us above the rest.

I respect your opinion.

BTW, regarding that URL you dropped in there, back in the late 1920s they faced an oil peak ~ then better technology came to the rescue and revealed there was a lot more oil than anyone had heretofore believed.

Earlier Henry Ford intended to build cars with engines that ran on ethanol. He was a big ethanol fan.

You're right -- I had thought out "physical and psychological" unreadiness, but the physical dropped out in a mental glitch when I typed it! :(

Point about a candidate who has to be talked into it holds, though!
