...In a statement sent to NBC News and other media, Obama says that he authorized the operation to rescue Buchanan.
"Thanks to the extraordinary courage and capabilities of our Special Operations Forces, yesterday Jessica Buchanan was rescued and she is on her way home," he says. "As Commander-in-Chief, I could not be prouder of the troops who carried out this mission, and the dedicated professionals who supported their efforts."
Obama, who spoke to Buchanan's father Tuesday night, says she was "selflessly serving her fellow human beings when she was taken hostage by criminals and pirates who showed no regard for her health and well-being."
He says he told her father that "all Americans have Jessica in our thoughts and prayers, and give thanks that she will soon be reunited with her family."
"The United States will not tolerate the abduction of our people, and will spare no effort to secure the safety of our citizens and to bring their captors to justice," Obama adds. "This is yet another message to the world that the United States of America will stand strongly against any threats to our people."...

Sometimes media are asked by government officials and/or families to avoid publicizing a case because it can make the hostages into higher-value captives in the eyes of the terrorists, and that can have very serious negative consequences. In countries where ransoms are paid (not ours) it increases the price. In any case, it can result in greater security measures being taken that have the effect of making a rescue tremendously more difficult or even impossible.
I agree with many on this thread that the timing is suspicious. But since there is so much we will never know due to operational security issues, let's just be grateful for the work of Seal Team Six and for the decision by President Obama not to follow the poor precedent of Jimmy Carter in hostage matters. Even broken clocks are right twice a day.
I could accept that if their names weren't given to Reuters for publication exactly one week ago today. It's either classified for operational security or it's not.
This administration has given me no reason to trust anything it says or does. Therefore, I don't.
Welllll——remember “collateral damage”? Do you suppose Obamuzzie would hesitate to waste a few fellow muzzies if it would help him, in his mind anyway, to get re-elected? And by the way, extending that logic to the whole Persian Empire might give the Mullahs a clew to keep their heads down if Obambie gets the idea, maybe by Clintonesque style polling, that throwing a hundred or so tomahawks their way would help him stay in the White Hut.

Oh, come on - Obama is not my darling, but you can’t Always be partisan about Everything.
Kidnap American. Get killed. That sends a simple message. I like it.
The Christian radio station I listen just mentioned it ‘went down’ because ‘of concerns for her health problems’ and she needed immediate treatment.
So by that rationale, if she’d been as healthy as a horse, the scummy cowards would still have her.
I hate that pestilent parasite who has infested *our* house.
I would be surprised mightily if the SEALs felt anything less than utter contempt for their solely self-serving, opportunistic “CIC”.
Yeah.
Tough talk.
As far as I’m concerned, his “message to terrorists” is “We won’t tolerate hostage taking for any longer than we can manage to find a way to make political hay out of it!*”
[*time frame to be determined according to election cycle]
Every day he gives me a fresh reason to despise him.
Oh and the staged photo with Obama and Michelle; Obama on the phone talking to the Father...I am sure within the next week, NYT will have the names of the Seals involved in the rescue...then, they will make a Movie...
