Sir, with all due respect to you, I think I dis-agree with you. First, I will save you the trouble of checking my posts. No one on FR was or is a bigger supporter of SP than myself. And, if she were on a ballot even today, I would vote for her.

But, in the end, as she herself put it, she put “family” first. George Washington and all his loyal fighters, when push came to shove, did not put their families FIRST! 500,000 DEAD men on both sides of the Civil War did not shrink from serving their country and leaving the wife, and babies at home by themselves. Hundreds of thousands of DEAD men in WWI and WWII did not either. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, same thing, and so on. And, along that same path, lots of women did not put FAMILY before COUNTRY either and faced down death and some died leaving a grieving family at home.

When I served my country for 2 years active duty, putting “MY” family FIRST.............. was not an option. There was a hot war going on not very far from me!

I am sure I will get flamed for saying this but “oh well”. No one will ever convince me that the Giffords shooting did scare the hell out of Sarah Palin and her family. And, I understand that! If she were my daughter or wife or mother, I would feel the same way!!

But, let’s don’t put the Palins, and Sarah in particular, up on the same pedestal as all the men by the hundreds of thousands who put their country first and then paid the ultimate price for doing so;...................and, in the same vein, let’s not equate her either to those that are still out there in the arena each day taking risks by the hour (Gingrich, Romney, Paul, Santorum), not sitting at home safe around a warm fire in the fireplace knowing full well that there are still crazed shooters out there.

But for those that died, or were turned into mist in the sky by artillery and bombs,or drowned, or flew a disabled plane into the ground, to say nothing of the millions of arms and legs blown off, none of us keyboard crunchers would be here tonight.

Hopefully, since indeed crazed shooters ARE still out there, Gingrich won’t lose his nerve and we get stuck with Romney....................or, jeeezzzz........Obama! Because, clearly, Gingrich is about the only hope us TRUE conservatives have left.

With all due respect, how many of those men carried, gave birth to and raised five children? Do you expect women to go into battle? Men and women are different, but both can be brave and patriotic.

No one has been attacked as the Palins have been. They even attacked a baby, Trig.

Have you and your family EVER been attacked in the press, continually? Unless you have been THERE and seen what it does to children, you cannot fault her for protecting them. And, yes, I WAS there. It just wasn't because of politics. You have NO idea what the lies, smears and hatred can do to a child. But I know. When your kids suffer emotional scars from the hatred, get back to me.

Absolute agreement, Tejas.

Sarah would've been the next Reagan, perhaps more so.
She made pulling the '08 lever for McLame almost sufferable.

She couldn't help but understand the enormous grassroots momentum aligned behind her to turn this Nation around.
It was no doubt a very scary place for her and her family to be, but destiny seems demand its own schedule, oblivious and/or indifferent to our mortal fears.

With humble thanks to whatever God is out there, our Founders didn't make a similar decision.

All of what you said re the sacrifice of so many hundreds of thousands in our history who left everything behind and risked all .. it's the only reason there's still a USA to try and save again this November.
