November 09, 2004
Governors are increasingly linking innovative housing strategies with broader economic and development policies to make housing more available and affordable for all, according to a new NGA issue brief .
Given that one in every seven Americans today spends at least half of their income on housing, governors are increasingly linking innovative housing strategies with broader economic and development policies to make housing more available and affordable for all, according to a National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices issue brief released here today at the 2004 Annual Housing Conference.
The brief, which was funded by the Fannie Mae Foundation, will help frame much of the discussion during today’s conference, “States of Change: Innovative Policy and Investments for Stronger Communities,” sponsored jointly by the NGA Center and the Fannie Mae Foundation. Progressive leaders in state housing policy, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell will be featured speakers during the daylong symposium at the National Building Museum.
In his speech at the conference, Mitt Romney said: By leveraging public and private sector investment, we can increase our housing supply and support economic growth. Mitt Romney at 2004 NGA/Fannie Mae Foundation Housing Conference.
