I'd like to see a little more detailed reporting on how the NYC cops made the leap from pulling him over for running a red light (a relatively minor traffic infraction usually resulting in a traffic ticket) to searching his vehicle.

Now that I think about it, in most states you are required to tell the officer that you have a weapon. In NYC, that admission will get you a search, and maybe a complimentary “rough up”.

He might have gotten the search if police noticed some of the "wrong" bumper stickers on his car. You know, the ones the DHS warns the police about.
If you must drive through NYC, with a gun, be very careful...
