Say it ain't so.....truth is Stranger than fiction

In 1992, Bain Capital, with Mitt Romney at the Helm, bought American Pad and Paper from the Meade Corporation. In 1999 American Pad and Paper was bankrupted. Bain, with Mitt still in leadership, sold Ampad to a Bahrainian company, Crescent Capital Investments, now named Arcapita. The company is headed by Muslims who make all of their investment decisions based on Sharia law.

So Chickenhawk Romney fears radical Muslim Jihadists now after he was perfectly comfortable with them before. Are we reminded of a continuing pattern here?

Things have entered the 'weird zone'. Former Bain-iac Lew is the Obama Chief of Staff.

I shudder to think on the scenario of a President Willard trying to stand up to the Caliphate.

Stand up? I’d be surprised if he could get off his knees to bow like Obongo.

In 1999 American Pad and Paper was bankrupted.

How did they bankrupt it? Did they manage it very poorly and squander their capital?

Or did they purchase a losing company, salvage whatever was salvageable from the corporation and spin off the shell?

Did anyone really understand what Sharia was about in1992? It was not a considered a problem as it is today. If a modern politico or corporate leader is blind to intent of groups and individuals in the world politics today they need not apply for high office.

Actually, the Mittster has a very interesting fellow as a Middle East advisor. It gave me pause, and a little cause for optimism...

If Salon hates him, well... maybe it is not all doom and gloom after all.

There are no coincidences, look at what is and make no excuses. Very like Obama, all his choices and actions are purposeful. So consider this action well. If a person had no concerns or morality in business practices , ... it is good to know this information.

America is a plum and many are the powerful of the world that want or try to pick us off the tree of prosperity MO.

I despise Mittens, but this is one of the dumbest articles i have ever read. We have a bankruptcy system, and we can sell business to anyone in the world. How is Bahrain planning to spread Sharia law via their EVIL purchase of a paper and pad company? Silly Paulestinians.

And if the company were in bankruptcy, how would the shareholders have anything to sell?

Nachum, My understandning is Lew worked for Bain consulting which is different from Bain capital? Or is that Romney spin?

Bain consulting is trying to distance itself from Romney from what they said.

I have no idea what the difference was between Bain Capital and Bain Consulting. These groups are incestuous so we seem to see the same players over and over.

I once worked for a company owned by Crescent Capital. I noticed no changes when they bought us. I am pretty sure that the claim re Sharia law is completely false. In any event, in the 90's people weren't as focused on the threat of radical islam as they are today. I'm no Romney supporter, but I won't resort to contrived charges to bring him down either.

I thought this post came from the Daily Kos. I had to double check to see that it was on Freerepublic, which (I hope) still stands behind conservative principles.

As much as you might dislike Mitt, this type of attack is juvenile and something I hoped only was practiced by the left. Bain is a good company and private equity is an important part of our capitalistic system. Sometimes PE investments don’t work out. Schumpeter’s creative destruction needs to function for our economy to stay dynamic and continue to grow. Selling a bankrupt paper company to a middle eastern private company is not a crime, and might not have even been bad business decision. To say that it somehow shows Mitt exercised bad judgemnt or character or incompetence is silly and is embarrassing to find it here on freerebublic. While he might not be your guy (or gal), Bain was very sucessful under his leadership and the company remains so. Lets try to keep the debate honest and focused on our conservative principles.
