It seems to me, FReepers who are still clinging to the ‘ideal candidate’ meme. They then rant about other FReepers “caving in”, or go overboard in attacking Newt or some other candidate.

As you put it, we’re in the fight of our lifetime. If this were just some other presidential election where the stakes weren’t so high, I’d likely be making my decisions based on idealism as well. But that’s not what we have.

Either we win this election or America goes down the tank. Two, we have a slate of four candidates from which to choose. One’s a complete flake and is closer to ‘truther’ beliefs than solid conservative values. One’s an outright liberal who’s been on both sides of virtually any important issue, and can’t be trusted with the job. A third, who has shown good social conservative values, but not as good as a fiscal conservative, isn’t inspiring, comes across petulantly, and doesn’t have anything going for him.

That leaves us with one candidate. He’s feisty, knowledgeable, willing to take on the media and the democrats, and connects with the voters. But he too has big negatives from a social conservative standpoint.

But, going back to the first point (America’s decline), it’s not hard for me to decide who I’m going to back. And I think many across the country are beginning to come to that same conclusion. For those who say ‘we can’t win with newt’ I say ‘Yes! We can!’ The public is showing we can. Let’s roll!!
