The editor “jumped” the gun so to speak. It was obvious he got information that JoePa went to the hospital and was dying. I knew last night when the family stated he wasn’t dead that it meant he wasn’t dead “yet”. I assume if the editor had released the story that he was dying... he would have his job (?)

He was a great patriot, a humanitarian, a loyal friend - provided, of course, that he really is dead.

I played high school ball for four years. I wasn’t even close to being good enough to play at Oregon. I used to play pickup games until I got too old. That said, there’s a level of immersion for any game that is unhealthy. It appears Joe was a good example.

I coached kids in Oregon for about 15 years. Had one boy go on to play for the Ducks and then played for other Pro teams. Paterno was always someone you could learn from. I hope the family is at peace now.

I’m not following your comment. Are you saying Coach would have lived longer than 85 years if he hadn’t been involved in football?

“Rest In Peace, Joe “
Amen. By my reading, he told his administration what he was told. It was their job to call the police if indicated and stand up for their responsibility. Instead Joe carried the blame to his grave.

Hopefully the Paterno family will find some peace now. I liked Joe, funny how a few years ago many PSU fans were calling for his scalp when the football team was losing.

Well - the first stone I am casting is against ESPN and their politically correct coverage of the scandal at Penn State that ended Paterno's career. They will not address the matter as homosexual pedophilia or hebephilia. They go to great lengths to ignore the homosexual aspect of it, using the blanket terms "abuse", "sexual abuse" or "child abuse". Who doesn't understand the power of the gay and lesbian movements in academia? I have yet to hear ESPN acknowledge that the power of gays and lesbians in academia played any role in the reluctance of the several parties with direct knowledge of Sandusky's behavior to come forward to the authorities, or the inaction of those few in authority who were told. Doesn't make it right, doesn't excuse it, but as an explanatory factor, is looms large, except in the sporting press coverage of this matter. In non- sports areas of any university one must kow-tow or at least tread lightly in situations where a reflex claim of homophobia could be raised. The mere political correctness present in ESPN's coverage of this matter is proof that they follow a line (whether it emanates from ABC or from pandering to some of the sporting cultures they cover -LPGA, perhaps? - doesn't really matter) - and that line obstructed their coverage of the Sandusky matter from the start.

You are just begging people to say something uncomplimentary so you can be outraged. Why else would you bring that up?

Wrong. That’s called “passing the buck” where I come from.
