Portraying Paterno (i.e. God Incarnate on that campus) as essentially powerless when it comes to his staff is not accurate, I think. From what I heard he could have called for Sandy’s public execution on the 50 yard line, and it would have been carried out in minutes.

See, that makes no sense. How is Paterno's ego helped by covering up for a guy who hadn't coached in 4 years? How does reporting it to PSU authorities cover up anything? Those that covered up were indicted.
