To: Alas Babylon!

Thanks! Been real busy getting a special racing car ready for the Daytona 24 Hours next week and this is the first day I can even think about focusing on politics in a long time. The car is ready and I can take a day off to get caught up.

With that said, can anyone explain why John Boehnor is relevant to the current news cycle?

The media obviously is trying to gain some insight on the Speaker/Weeper strategy for the next round of negotiations on the payroll tax cut (which is not a tax cut because Social Security contributions are not a tax), since the current gift from the mighty Inside the Beltway Boys is due to expire in just .... 5 weeks.

It's clear the media is thinking beyond the republican primaries to the challenges of governing, where a 2-month change in tax/contribution is an incentive to the consumer to go buy something, and the potential employer to go out and hire somebody.

Could it be the spending spree that continues as Republicans were historically elected to stop in 2010?
