Eff the Contra Club Republicans.
Besides, I can’t stand your cheap whiskey.
True, 100% name ID and a high dislike percentage - but that dislike level was manufactured by a lot of abusive media (the myth about telling his wife he wanted a divorce on her deathbed, etc. - which became legend and then was printed without regard for the truth) and Democratic attacks. And it is not immutable. I think the change the Newt managed in SC was indicative of the fact that people are able to listen to him and can be won by his forceful presentation. This is the entire point of Newt - he can chew up and spit out Obama in any Presidential debates, assuming he gets the nomination. If he loses the nomination to Romney, then consult with Newt on the morning of November 7th to hear “I told you so”. Otherwise address him as President-Elect.
That is the uncomfortable part of Newt - you have to have the courage to give him the nomination in order for him to self-rehabilitate. And he can do that best by doing what he does best - and that would be achieved in debating Obama. People would see the contrast and come to the same conclusion that SC voters did (e.g., the ex-wife allegations thing is not so weighty when you see that he is is forceful and powerful as a speaker, debater and leader.)
In a year in which the Voters hate anyone in office, wouldn’t it be nice to be the non-officeholder? Or, better yet, the guy the media hates? Republican establishment? Karl Rove (he’s lookin’ real nervous, isn’t he?)?
