Challenges Mount for Rick Santorum [Pledges To "Fight On"]

JANUARY 21, 2012 Challenges Mount for Rick Santorum

By PATRICK O'CONNOR and BRODY MULLINS

CHARLESTON, S.C.—Republican White House hopeful Rick Santorum burst out of Iowa earlier this month on a wave of unexpected momentum.

But after a third-place finish in South Carolina, the former Pennsylvania senator finds himself limping into Florida without a clear path to victory and an unforgiving landscape for an under-funded candidate.

With 95% of the precincts reporting, Mr. Santorum was the top pick of 17% of Republican primary voters in South Carolina, well behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's 41% and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's 27%. That result came a day after Iowa Republicans named him the official winner of their first-in-the-nation caucuses.

Mr. Santorum drew large crowds this week when he campaigned in the socially conservative regions of South Carolina. But he wasn't able to translate that into a strong showing on primary night. Now, as the race shifts to Florida, Mr. Santorum must figure out how to magnify his up-close appeal to an expansive and expensive state where money typically plays a large role in determining the winner.

On Saturday night, as he has all week, Mr. Santorum pledged to fight on.

"Three states, three winners. What a great country," he told his supporters at an election-night rally at the Citadel in Charleston. "It's a wide open race. Join the fight."

Mr. Santorum often cites his Iowa win as evidence he should remain in the race and has hinted that he expects Mr. Gingrich to flame out at some point. On Saturday, his campaign announced Mr. Santorum would immediately travel to Florida to start campaigning in the Sunshine State. His first event is a campaign rally Sunday at a chicken wing restaurant outside Fort Lauderdale.

Congrats to Newt for his victory. He earned it.

Santorum needs to put his ego aside, place his country before himself, drop out and go back to wherever he came from.

Rick Perry is twice the Conservative Santorum is!
He deserves the VP slot.

Since 2000 he has led the second largest state in the union on to be the most successful economically.

Perry stated that in his administration he would start all countries getting U.S. foreign aid at ZERO, until they proved to be our allies.

He was also the first to bring the war on religion to the forefront.

Ah, how fun it is to go through life with blinders on! Your hatred of Santorum has been duly noted...endlessly so.

After wiping the spittle off your chin and setting aside your pom-poms, you may want to take note that Newt’s record is as deeply flawed, if not more so, than Santorum’s. Especially the LIEberal-push agenda Newt himself has endorsed since leaving congress.

I do realize the Newters like to dismiss everything questionable within Newt’s record - from his own word and deed - as “mistakes” or brand anyone who points out these facts as “trashing Newt”, he is far from perfect. He has yet to recant for many of his wrong-headed proposals.

Santorum was right on the money when he declared: “I was fighting for private sector health care when these two guys were playing footsy with the left... It took Newt 10 years to figure out government run health care was wrong, while guys like Rick Santorum knew it was wrong from the beginning.”

My first choice was Rick Perry.
I can’t say that I like Newt personally, but I’ll be da*ned if I support RINO Romney or Ricardo Santorum.
Santorum’s voting record for illegal aliens is shameful.

If you recall, we’ve played this game before. Last time, it was GAME-SET-MATCH regarding every topic you seemed to have trouble with. I know it’s pointless to argue with the rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth Santorum bashers, but you commented that ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION is so important to you.

Newt clearly hasn’t made up his mind on the subject, but the one thing he has been consistent in, he will not enforce the law (build a border fence, deport illegals, sanctions against companies hiring illegals), but the latest rhetoric has been all over the map.

That’s the same reason I could not and would not EVER support Slick Willard Romney, so why should I give Newt a pass.

As I plainly and clearly pointed out, there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between an endorsement for Romney or Newt. Both have flip-flopped and have yet to come to grips with what the American people are really looking for...that is, to stop selling us out for illegals (potential voters) that you would intend to grant amenesty to.

Newt Says Romney a Possible VP Pick

“I think the consensus is that he’d certainly be on the list, whether he’d want to or not,” Gingrich said. “He’s a very competent person. This is a very serious man. I would certainly support him if he became the Republican nominee.”

I heard the entire speech...I certainly didn’t get the “14-year old Beeber groupie” reaction you did. Newt’s a dullard and if I had to listen to “Mr. Professor” drone on day after day, I’d have to withdrawl from the class, change majors or whatever it took so I didn’t have to listen to him again. Althought he threw out some “red meat” for the sheepdogs, his speech seemed disjointed, rambling and bordered on incoherent at times....I thought I was listening to RuPaul’s SC speech again. At least he had a few nice things to say about Santorum, more so for Rick than the other candidates.

Yeah, well . . . I'm one of the "sheepdogs" and I DO want "RED MEAT" every day and if Newt Gingrich sounds "disjointed and incoherent" to you, then I'm pretty sure the only person that does make sense to you is the guy you talk to in the mirror every day. The words you're choosing to use just make you an antagonizing troll, not a team player and frankly who needs ya?
