Schlockumentary filmmaker Michael Moore said recently that America was "founded on genocide and built on the backs of slaves."
This disgusting statement was made at the same January 12 Symposium on Poverty at which he claimed older whites who didn't vote for Barack Obama in 2008 were racist.
MICHAEL MOORE: "It’s not envy, it’s war, and it is a class war, and it’s a war that has been perpetrated by the rich on to everybody else. I mean, the class war is one they started. The mistake they've made, just to deal with the racial part of this, is their boot has been on the necks of people of color since we began. This is a nation founded on genocide and built, built on the backs of slaves. Alright?"
Moore-"So, so we started with a racial problem. We went, we tried to actually eliminate one entire race, and then we used another race to build this country actually quite quickly as a new country into a world power. This country never would have had the wealth that it had had it not had slavery for a couple of hundred years. If it had had, if it had had to pay people, if it actually had to pay people to build America, you know, we might just be at that point in Utah where we're joining the two rails together maybe at this point right now."
So the United States wouldn't have participated in the Industrial Revolution if not for slavery? And all of the fabulous inventions created by Americans after the Civil War wouldn't have occurred if slavery didn't exist prior? One and a half subsequent centuries of innovation and expansion would never have come to fruition?
Exactly what kind of an America-hating, history-challenged nincompoop do you have to be to not only think such nonsense but actually say it at a symposium - to applause, no less! - being aired on C-SPAN?

I think Moore is trying to perpetuate the myth that whites were trying to eradicate all Native-Americans by deliberately exposing them to smallpox, like Ward Churchill claimed. Yeah, some were exposed to smallpox, but it was accidental.

By 1648 about 90% of the Indians had died of disease ~ at this point in time the reigning theory is they died of hanta virus (which was a recurring problem in the Americas, not something brought from the Old World).
I once read an analysis that was rather persuasive. Let's say you lined up all the Spaniards in the New World from roughly 1500 to 1600 on one side, and then you had all the Indians who'd lived here at any time in that century line up and begin marching at the Spaniards where they would be instantly chopped down (with their bodies instantly disappearing).
The Spaniards would soon be overrun and the Indians would keep on coming.
Viewed as an invasion the movement of the Old World peoples to the New World required resources that were simply not available at the time. Only the rich had boats. Virtually everyone else was poor as a church mouse. Those boats had very limited capacities, and it wouldn't be until the late 1600s until anyone figured out how to move large numbers of humans in boats across the Atlantic.
There were tens of millions of Indians. They'd been here a long time and occupied an enormous percentage of the land. They excelled in the domestication and development of fruits and vegetables.
In short they were well prepared to take advantage of the newcomers. Alas, they didn't get the chance because they were killed by one of the great plagues that periodically swept the Americas.
All of that means that Michael is more than willing to believe lies about things that never happened.
Someday he will be struck down by the viruses that live and breed in large Hoagies everywhere. He will blame it on the Olive Oil and the Greek slave masters who poisoned him.

They died of diseases that were new to them. Neither the Indians nor the white people even knew what germs were or why anybody got sick.
Those same diseases had run their courses in Europe and killed millions of people centuries earlier.
Michael Moore knows nothing about history or science, but liberals think that fat sausage is an intellectual.

How old is this slob now, shouldn’t his heart give out on him soon ? I’m sure many of you have heard of the book “Why Bad Things Happen To Good People” by Rabbi Kushner. How about some bad things happening to bad people.
It might sound callous to wish for someone to die, but hell, how else do you get rid of creeps like this turd. The media keeps sticking him under your nose every chance they get. He loves the attention and all the money, so how else do we never hear from this jerk again.

And I’m not saying slavery was great for them and they ought to thank us for it. But no other country on earth fought a civil war over it and lost over 500,000 citizens in part for ending it. Hell in Africa there are still countries - mostly muslim - that practice and have not outlawed slavery. There’s still tribal wars going on over there.
I just believe this is one way on how God can take a bad situation but pull a great deal of good out of it.
