I think Newt should be happy to meet with weird Al. He should also be pleased to accept an invitation to speak at the NAACP if he is invited. I think Bush was stupid not to. Republicans should seize every opportunity to expose the black electorate to thoughtful explanations of rational policy. Many will of course be deaf and blind but some will get it.

We can use every black vote we can get--we may not get a lot at any one time but we won't get any at all by stiffing the chance to talk to them.

In a fifty-fifty nation, a shift of a single percent settles elections.

Most Repubs shrink from confrontation. Gingrich revels in it. He'll go and he will choose arguments that will go right past their ideological barriers. Thats his gift.

I agree with your take. When Gingrich went the kid-janitor-route and food-stamp-president route I cringed, but now I think he was trying to provoke a necessary dialogue.

This terminology dates Gingrich, especially since there have not been any “food stamps” for a long time, and the taking umbrage to the janitor-rhetoric by minorities was certain to happen - I just don’t see how any of these “mistakes” weren’t deliberately done by Gingrich.
