If you want to throw Newt under the bus because of his seedy past, that’s your choice. It’s still a sticking point with me even though I support him. But I just thought I’d point this out...
“11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.”
Is != was. If we were never supposed to associate with brothers and sisters who have repented from sinful lifestyles, I doubt we’d be allowed to associate with very many people. Newt claims to have made peace with God. Unless I see evidence to the contrary, who am I to say that he’s being disingenuous?
Just some food for thought.
I don’t think he’s being disingenous. I think that he truly does love Callista.
The problem is that he’s still married to Jackie, and she is still alive. The argument has never been that Newt is dishonest about it - which is good, the problem is that how can you say that his new marriage is valid while the old one is not?
That’s not even getting into Marianne either, which is a whole different story.
