One of the greatest song writing teams of the Sixties was Hal David (lyrics) and Burt Bacharach (music). This is the Hal David and Burt Bacharach Songbook, Part 1.

David had been a journalist and lyric writer for bandleader Sammy Kaye, and Bacharach had been Marlene Dietrich’s musical director, when they met in 1957 at Famous Music in New York.

Their first success as a team came when Mitch Miller at Columbia Records handed a song of theirs to Marty Robbins. Miller produced, and Ray Conniff handled arranging and conducting honors. This is a good example of rockabilly. Catch that whistling hook! It was an auspicious start.
