But Newts support of Dede Scozzafava is eminently defensible, right kevao?

No, it is not. And I'm still pissed at Newt for that. But I know of no Newt supporters claiming he is flawless or pure. Not even Newt claims that.

My comment was directed at the "Santorum is the only pure conservative left" crowd. Scozzafava taints Newt; *but* Specter taints Santorum just as much. Medicare Part D taints Newt; *but* Santorum's support for it taints him just as much.

So, let's all just drop the whole who's "real" or "pure", and get on with who's electable.

If nothing else, that makes Newt and his supporters more honest than supporters of Perry, Santorum, etc.

I never use those adjectives in regard to myself or anybody else. If Newt runs against the prince I will support Newt but I do it with eyes wide open and with the certain knowledge that Newt will toss conservativism aside as easily as a wife if some new age idea seduces him.

Well said, and might I add this: Doug Hoffman was an extraordinarily flawed candidate. Some upstate New Yorkers, big Reagan folks, said that Hoffman as this pure tea party type guy was a huge bunch of BS. So no, support of Dee Dee was not a good thing, but Hoffman had many many flaws too .
