Rick Santorum walked a fine line in his response to questions about Marianne Gingrichs accusations against her ex-husband and Santorums GOP rival, Newt.
Personal matters are personal matters, but they are matters that are particularly when you are in public life as he was at the time and the people involved were also in a sense in public life those issues are issues that people will look at, Santorum responded.
I believe in forgiveness, Im called to believe in forgiveness, he continued. I do believe having some accountability to a higher calling other than self is a very, very important aspect and perspective that is important for leaders.
To make the final comment, these are issues of character and these are issues that people will consider based upon the time, when, where, how all those thing will factor in and Ill let people make that decision, Im certainly not going to make it for them, he said to a crowd of about 150 people.
do you recall how in NYC they always had a banner running telling us all what the Nations Debit was??? wondering what happened to that also...nothing bad under B, Hussein obama, no sir re...don't you just love those folks???? lol
{^) Thanks for the smile, LaBar.
Hey, even though Santorum has never asked for my forgiveness for such grievous transgression of fashion, he has it, absolutely! {^)
Now if he would only ponder the moral failing of pride. I believe he's engaging in pride to the detriment of our nation, and even now, I forgive him for it. I pray Santorum has the grace and character to overcome that failing and do the better, most difficult thing -- step aside for a fellow Republican and fellow imperfect, flawed, semi-statist guy, but who nonethess is considerably more gifted in oratory, and has a DEMONSTRATED HISTORY much greater than Santorum's of helping Ronald Reagan turn America's political direction greatly to the right.
No, that running debt banner is still there in NYC. Only difference since the election of Obama is they’ve now place a sign underneath that banner:
“BUSH’S FAULT!”

Excuse me, Lauren, but you're skirting pretty close to breaking the 9th Commandmant not to bear false witness. THE TRUTH, no matter how much you'd like to deny it, is that you personally have ZERO ZILCH NADA NULL idea whether or not Newt "destroyed the heart of a wife." NONE of us except Newt, Marianne, and the Almighty Himself, can know OR JUDGE what happened in that situation. We can and DO rightly judge Newt on his political record, some judging him harshly, some judging him more easily. THAT is SOLELY where your judgment of Newt should reside as well, FRiend -- on his POLITICAL record.
Biblical morality is the very source of our founding principles -- and withholding judgment on such personal failings as infidelity, and leaving it to GOD instead, IS PART OF BIBLICAL MORALITY.
I knew that Gingrich and Marianne had a troubled marriage, but I never knew just how troubled it was until I read the Best of the Web on WSJ, today.
Marianne called Gingrich on his birthday (around 1987) and told him that she was leaving him. He went home to find his house emptied. They signed a formal separation agreement and maintained separate residences for about six years. The separation agreement was signed, but never legally filed.
For some reason, they reconciled in ‘93 or ‘94, but is was never a happy marriage.
How many men would reconcile with a woman who once left them and took everything with her?
I’ve known more than my share of guys who had equally cold wives who for decades made miserable the lives of nearly everyone around them. Empirical evidence in my experience makes me tend to think Marianne is the destructive whirlwind here trying to up-end Newt. As for the truth — only God knows. But we can know Newt’s political record, and so I believe that is really what a moral people should use to decide whether to politically support Gingrich.
Newt released a white paper on health care a few months ago that kind of concerned me. That is the type of thing that we should be focusing on.
Kazan, everybody makes mistakes, Lord knows I made more than most in my misspent youth. But I grew up and even in my misspent youth I could be counted on in any type of fight my buddies were engaged in.
Newt took a dive in the Clinton impeachment fight because he was living in a glass house. When we needed 100% of Newts talent we got 10 because he was protecting his own ass.
Forgiving him for his dalliances is not my province. Trusting himto do the right thing in return for my vote is and as an amateur historian I will never trust him on my 6.
Your 6 may vary.
This concerned me about Santorum -- you can hear him at the link saying:
"One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldnt get involved in the bedroom, we shouldnt get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world....
Gee, I guess I and every other conservative I know missed that memo! Wow.
On balance, reviewing the big picture of Newt's many achievements that helped turn this nation to the right, I think Newt is far and away the better gamble to beat Romney, beat Obama, and REDUCE GOVERNMENT INTRUSION on the freedoms of Americans.
“It was a sincere question, who did the three term Governor who came in second in the 2008 primary, keep from becoming the conservative president?”
The practical choices presented to conservatives in 2008 was one of the lesser of two evils....Romney vs McCain. Having had first hand personal experience with the later, I was convinced Romney stood a better chance.
I can understand choosing to register a protest vote so I do not blame such voters. To my chagrin I have done so on the state level in the past myself and had to live with the results.
Huckabee by any measure stayed in way past the time to gracefully bow out...IF he valued affecting results more than his own personal interests.
This is why I have great respect for true “movement conservatives” willing to step aside and endorse more electable conservatives when the hand writing is on the wall as far as their prospects.
Today’s context and choices are much different. Newt is in my opinion the better candidate to navigate the challenge ahead...where in order to beat Obama any GOP candidate must be able to overcome a sycophant media.
Huckabee and McCain were both superior to the left wing, incompetent, unlikable, anti-conservative, Mitt Romney.
You thinking that it was a decision of preferring Romney or McCain, only shows that you consider Romney acceptable.
At least McCain and Huckabee are rino Republicans, Romney is a liberal, poison pill, and a train wreck as a candidate.
Clinton has never ceased being unfaithful to his wife. There is no evidence Newt has been unfaithful to his present wife of more than 11 years. Big difference.
And as many Iowa winners who were never heard from again can attest, An Iowa win does not a president make.
Because if a man changes his ways, you should accept the new person. Christ would. Wouldn't we all like to be more like Him?
Any person that wants to control the internet and the flow of information should not be elected dog catcher... let alone President.
Santorum blew it by supporting SOPA.
Absolutely! Ricky needs to bow out and endorse Newt. Or at least stifle himself!

Your boy is behind. Iowa 25 delegates assigned proportionately RS 6 NG 4. NH= RS 0 NG 0. SC RS 0 NG 23. RS down to NG by 21.
Now, yes.
Prior to South Carolina, no.
Get my point? If you are arguing that I need to back Newt now because he’s ahead, you should have done the same for Santorum when he was ahead.
That would be logical, eh?
I’m arguing he hasn’t changed his ways - not that we shouldn’t forgive those who have.
