The 2nd amendment gives this young lady the right to possess a gun.
No it doesn't.
She has that right even without the 2nd amendment.
The amendment merely protects that right.

Forgive the semantic correction, but it is important. The Constitution does not give anyone any rights and to say that is a very dangerous thing, indeed. Because if you say the Constitution ‘gives’ a right then it can be amended to take away that right, too.
The Constitution enumerates rights that are inherent in men courtesy of their Creator. It makes clear that government ‘shall not’ infringe on those God given rights.
But nowhere in the Constitution does it say that my rights come from a mere document.
