Gun nuts in the Tennessee state legislature have declared civil war on New Yorkers saying they will retaliate for the prosecution of a woman who was carrying an illegal pistol at the 9/11 Memorial. A resolution winding its way through the Tennessee legislature warns New Yorkers not to drive through their state because the Highway Patrol is gunning for us. A Knoxville-based legislator, who moonlights as a farmer, is so angry over the Tennessee tourists gun arrest last month that his resolution condemns it as a grave miscarriage of justice and reminds New Yorkers to drive carefully if we come visit.
We remind the citizens of New York, especially those residing in New York City, to drive carefully through the great state of Tennessee, paying extra attention to our speed limits, reads House Resolution 585, which urges charges be dropped against Meredith Graves. A registered nurse and fourth-year medical student, Graves was arrested when she tried to check her Tennessee-registered weapon at the 9/11 Memorial in December. Its illegal to carry the weapon in this state. Graves faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted of felony weapons possession; prosecutors have not said if they will seek an indictment on that or on a lesser charge.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
New York is violating the constitution. Tennessee should retaliate. Beware, all you New Yawkers - you drive through my state and make a wrong move and the citizens of this fine state along with our various police officers, will make you aware of OUR laws!
I remember that one!
Personally, I was always a fan of Mrs. Renfros salsa...used more cilantro.
Back when the speed limit was 55, there was a sign on I-75 just as you crossed into Ohio from Michigan that listed the fines 55-60 X$$, 60-65...etc.
The Ohio state police patroled I-75 like ants on a food trail. My dad, a retired Detroit police officer, was pulled over the only time in his life along that stretch. He and mom were only doing 58 mph.....
He and several other cars were all pulled over, they were spotted by the airplane patrol who called in to the police cruisers that radar'ed the group then pulled them over. Dad didn't get the ticket because of his retiree badge but the other cars did.
Coincidence? Maybe, but I prefer to believe the Ohio troopers were deliberately targeting the Michiganders heading south........An OSU - U of M thing....;.
I also lived in Upstate New York for a period. In fact, owned 36 acres up there. I know exactly how New York State works. Wouldnt go back up there ever.
You’re right I mistated, I Knew it was New York city, I was probably thinking ahead about the extradition thing.
At one time there was a billboard on I 10 as you entered Louisiana from Mississippi and was paid for by someone or group from Mississippi, that read, “ You are now entering Louisiana, please set your clocks back 3 seconds.”
"Gun nuts..."
All new 'assault rifles' are banned.
Dealbreaker.
NY *IS* that bad.
Thanks, Laz...I lived upstate in the ‘70s, and had a weekend cottage in Delaware County in the ‘90s. Things were still pretty good back then, but I guess things changed.
When the LEO runs your license plate number it gives him/her the city you live in.
So relax if you are not from NYC.
Perhaps the rest of the empire State should secede from the empire. It can’t be fun having those jerks tax & regulate you out of existence.
My only qualm with that is I don’t want New York city or even new york city & Albany to have their own senators. They are by no means an equal to any of us. Still my great sympathies for the poor people of upstate New York. This is the fought of the lawless Federal Supreme court for robing the States of their Republican from of Goverment with the Regionally Representative State Senate.
NY State does have the responsibility to make sure NY city recognizes the full faith and credit of the documents of the other U.S. States.
If New York State does not want to enforce reciprocity, the Tennessee is not inclined to do likewise for New Yorkers in Tennessee.
It is as simple as that.
It isn't. Those are two reasons why I no longer live there.
This may be true, and Tennessee can discriminate among new Yorkers in giving reciprocity. But that doesn’t mean that they should feel compelled to.
As has been pointed out New York State has counseled carry permits which they are are making new York city honor but are not making new York city honor the permits of other States, specifically Tennessee in this case.
While New York City can be fought for mistreating Tennessean in the improper enforcement of their laws. It is New York State who can be held responsible for their failure to honor the full faith & credit of Tennessee licenses & documents. imperiling this poor Tennessee woman’s liberty.
I don’t buy the argument that the rest of new York are blameless.
In any-case this is a simple matter of reciprocity. If New York will not honor & respect the rights of Tennessean. Tennessean have no obligation to do likewise for New Yorkers. The matter is as simple as that.
The prospect of several thousand pissed off Americans surrounding a UN or Whitehouse soiree with guns pointed in their direction is too close to being a reasonable response to their nonsense.
“No big change with this.
Its well-known that LEOs and local law in Tennessee have been targeting out of state plates for decades.
“
I guess now they got a political reason to target New Yorkers.
Actually it seems rather simple coming down to just one word: “reciprocity”.
Not only in giving New York a taste of its own medicines but in the legal printable that if New York will not honor the Full Faith & credit rights of Tennesseans. Tennessee should reciprocate.
Throw the book at Tennessee, Tennessee should throw it right back at New York, and let New Yorkers decide if their duplicitous treatment of Southerners is worth it.
You are talking about NY CITY laws.
Those of us in the REST of the state have NO control over NY CITY laws. Heck, we have darn little say about state law due to the concentration of population down in New York City.
Tell me again why it is OK for Tennessee to harass ME if I happen to drive in their state, when I live a couple hundred miles away from the city they have a problem with.
I’ll tell you the problem: People are too ignorant to understand that there is a CITY called New York and it is NOT the STATE of New York. Two different places, with entirely different people. We don’t even sound the same when we speak.
I guarantee you if this was about Chicago, there wouldn’t be a bunch of politicians calling for the for harassment of everyone with an Illinois plate.
But that’s OK. I just won’t spend my money in Tennessee this summer. If they don’t want me there just because my license plate says “New York” they can go screw themselves.
” Beware, all you New Yawkers - you drive through my state and make a wrong move and the citizens of this fine state along with our various police officers, will make you aware of OUR laws!
“
Don’t worry. This resident of New York State, this CONSERVATIVE, pro second amendment person, who lives NO WHERE NEAR NY City, and who has no say in what NY City does has just cancelled his plans to vacation (Read: spend money in) in Tennessee.
Apparently it is a state run by and populated by a bunch of ignoramuses.
“Y’all” can kiss my ass.
