I guess my ears must have deceived me. Just like when Newt expressed his admiration for progressives like T.R., F.D.R. And refers to himself as being a-realpolitik-wilsonian.

You know, I’m not completely blind to the Romney/Beck/Mormonism angle, but I’ve yet to hear anyone tell me one thing Beck has said about Gingrich that isn’t true. Can anyone explain Newt’s oft-stated affinity for Woodrow Wilson, FDR and Teddy Roosevelt? Throw in LBJ and that’s a progressive Mount Rushmore right there. I don’t know how any conservative doesn’t find that incredibly alarming. In light of that, health care mandates, anthropogenic global warming and Dede Scozzafava seem perfectly consistent with who Newt is. Yeah, he’s better than Romney — but man, if that’s the only bar our candidate needs to clear, we’re in deep trouble.
