Allies of embattled GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich are coming to his defense against his ex-wife's new and salacious charges, labeling Marianne as "unstable" and "unhinged."
What's more is that they are slapping at ABC, which is set to run an interview Thursday with Marianne Gingrich in which she claims the former speaker wanted an open marriage so he could date his current wife, Callista. Gingrich's supporters claim the network is trying to get the Republican out of the race just as he's peaking in the polls.
What was once a quiet campaign to distance Marianne from Gingrich has kicked in to high gear in advance of the interview and GOP presidential debate Thursday.
One former associate of Marianne Gingrich, former congressional wife Catherine Mann-Grandy, told Whispers that the speaker's second wife was often rude, loud and unreasonable, and she doubted her story about the open marriage. [Could Romney Stumble in South Carolina?]
Citing a code among congressional wives, Mann-Grandy said, "We pretty much kept our lips closed, but Marianne was emotionally unstable and I particularly felt that she was obstreperous and rude."
She described Gingrich's ex-wife as "outrageous, she is headline grabbing, she has always been that kind of person...we all have character flaws, but at this moment for her to choose this and to say these things about an open marriage, I mean, hello. I mean first of all, she's probably making it all up. It's he said, she said, but he doesn't get to say, just she gets to say." [Read the U.S. News debate on whether Gingrich can beat Obama.]
Mann-Grandy said she hopes Americans dismiss Marianne Gingrich as a loose cannon. "What I'm hoping is that the Americans who watch this, the patriots who watch this, will look at this and say, 'OK, this is a woman who is angry, seems unstable, a little unhinged,' because that was her rep."
Like a lot of Gingrich supporters, she also blamed ABC and the media for using his ex-wife to punish his success in the polls. "If Newt were not doing so well in South Carolina, she would not be talking. Nobody would care. Let's face it: They want to get rid of Newt, they want [Mitt] Romney."
Yes, that’s Fred (”Gopher”) Grandy’s wife. Fred served in the House with Newt (while they were in the minority). Their wives would have been associated as members of the “Congressional Wives Club,” which is actually a pretty active group.
After leaving Congress, Fred Grandy became a very popular radio guy in DC, with occasional outspoken appearances by Mrs. Grandy, so the Grandys have long been in on the political ‘action,’ if no longer in Congress.
She must be a Freeper. Good for her.
When Bubba’s myrmidons did this we called it the nuts and sluts defense....
Well, it’s not like Marianne Gingrich messed around with a married man - - - Oh wait. She did the same thing.
Note to the MSM. You no longer matter. There is nothing you can do or say that will get your candidate, Obama, reelected this fall.
This attack of the ex wife is going to go nowhere.
About 50% of marriages end in divorce in this country. The numbers may be different now due to the economy, but a few years back it was about 50%.
Just from my personal experience with family and friends who went through the divorce process- it was a horrible experience for them.
Restraining orders, arguments, custody and property disagreements, shyster lawyers.
Who in this day and age is going to give credence to an ex wife- when a lot of people in this country went through the exact same experience as Newt did?
... and is quickly reaching the end of her usefulness (for the MSM and DNC).
Yep. It ain’t taking.
Like painting without using primer. Just doesn’t look right.
Like an American Gigolo.
—But I think the same moral failings that led to his numerous affairs, and dropping one wife in favor of the next, and then repeating that behavior a second time,—
The first marital relationship began as a teacher boinking a 16-yr-old student (Newt), so I give him a pass on that one. I regard him as being once-divorced, not unheard of these days, and who knows all the facts?
There is reason for concern, but not more than that, considering the testimony of his daughters by his first wife.
The ABC news investigator Brian Ross who conducted the interview indicated she pulled a bait and switch. The interview was supposed to be about the fizzled FBI investigation (against her) and Newt's ethics investigations. Marianne took the interview off into this nonsense.
This is Newt’s best defense. Aside from his own veracity in defending himself.
Let women who admire him do it. This lady...and his daughters and I’m sure there will be others.
There were a lot of hints about this all over talk radio yesterday...that folks don’t know much about her yet and it is not flattering
Yep. Fred Grandy’s wife. Some interesting stuff about their radio show here: http://securefreedomradio.podbean.com/2011/07/18/fred-and-catherine-grandy/
Gotta love it when a jilted whore accuses her john of becoming someone else’s john.
Have no idea what her drinking habits are - but do keep in mind she was diagnosed with M.S. just prior to Newt’s decision to divorce.
It’s not a non-factor in appearing intoxicated. Read your own post. First she looks drunk now she looks good - make up your mind.
