So even though it's not law.... they are still going forward as if it has already passed.... Wow so I guess passing a law is no longer required?

So then we dont need to obsess with Congress’s laws since they are just pieces of paper anyway ? That’s what it seems like since the govt is trying to operate independently of them. And it seems like they always could, for decades now.

I feel so much safer knowing that they are trying to put a hapless Slovak graphic designer in prison for 20 years.

Guilty until proven innocent! Wonder if they will be held indefinitely?

It works like this: Users upload files to the host and then post links to the files on online forums and bulletin boards catering to the subject matter being uploaded. Copyright holders and porn fighters (claiming to be copyright holders) scour the boards and report files which are then removed by the file host. In practice, links are valid from hours to weeks before the files are removed. But the dead links are replaced by repeated uploads and uploads to multiple servers at once.

The file sharing sites offer limited free service with paying customers able to up and download larger files much faster.

Supposedly, by honoring copyright removals basically on demand, the file hosts were considered safe from legal action. The FBI has apparently decided to make Megaupload a test case. The FBI’s modus operandi is to hold and harass website operator for several years until obtaining guilty plea bargains and then shutting the rest down with a second wave of several more arrests and the chilling effect to close the rest without ever going to trial.

Essentially identical to Megaupload are ALL the file sharing operations:

BTW, I recommend Turbobit. The servers are in Russia, out of reach of DMCA complaints which they seem to ignore.

Most people do some combination of regular and side business.

Protest: Just stop going to their bleeping movies. Don’t buy ANY legitimate product. Make copyrights worthless to the big corps. Cost them half a trillion. Occupy Hollywood and Tea Party them. They are leftist scum anyway.

And watch PIRATE NFL. After the way they treated Rush & Tebow... More leftist scum.

FBI will not be able to go every where. Places like China, Russia, etc... will not allow it. So I really don’t think it’s going to do much. Plus there are too many people and the FBI does not even have the resources to do that.

For everyone they shut down 10 more will pop up.

MegaUpload servers were located in Hong Kong.

They do not have to stop the servers.

With the MegaUpload precedent, the credit card companies will soon stop honoring their charges.

Pretty soon, you’ll need the Mark of the Beast Seal of Approval to do anything. And it will look like Mickey Mouse.

What would the FBI say if you as an average American small business in Podunk Iowa had a theft of copyright issue and wanted the thief charged?

I’ll tell you what they would say, “go hire an attorney and sue in civil court, it’s not our problem”. But there is a double standard for the mega donors from Hollywood. For them the taxpayers are put on the hook to pay for the FBI to enforce their copyright claims on the other side of the world. They are special indeed.
