One problem is that Santorum’s repeated attacks on Gingrich just reinforces the meme that Gingrich is the singular non-Romney, who Santorum is trying desperately to dethrone. South Carolina voters know that conservatives must consolidate behind one conservative alternative, and with Santorum broadcasting that Newt is the strong horse, that just makes it more likely conservative voters will back Newt this Saturday.
Very astute observation! Newt is speaking Truth to power and it makes whining all the more identifiable. Did you see how his brain formulated that "elite media protecting Obama" moment? You could almost see him formulating the thought as the secondary question was asked! People see that, even if they can't quite put their finger on what it is. He pulls so quickly from his foundational knowledge base. Let's face it, he intellectually humiliated 2 major media "representatives" in about 4 days. Can you imagine a Presidency of this kind of intellectual engagement? Journalists might have to actually "think" before they asked questions!
